WARNING:  DO NOT OPERATE WEATHER RADAR WHILE THE AIRPLANE IS BEING REFUELED OR DEFUELED AND DO NOT OPERATE IN ANY RADIATING MODE WHILE A REFUELING/DEFUELING OPERATION IS BEING CONDUCTED WITHIN 200 FEET OF THE ANTENNA OR AN EXPLOSION MAY OCCUR.
PERSONNEL MUST NOT ENTER AN AREA CLOSER THAN 10 FEET IN FRONT OF A SCANNING RADIATING ANTENNA AND 80 FEET IN FRONT OF A STATIONARY RADIATING ANTENNA OR INJURY TO PERSONNEL MAY OCCUR.
CAUTION:  WHEN THE WEATHER RADAR IS OPERATED IN ANY MODE OTHER THAN STANDBY OR TEST, DIRECT THE NOSE OF AIRPLANE SO THE FORWARD 180-DEGREE SECTOR IS FREE OF LARGE METALLIC OBJECTS (HANGARS, TRUCKS, OTHER AIRPLANES, ETC.) FOR A DISTANCE OF 300 FEET AND TILT ANTENNA UPWARDS 14 DEGREES OR DAMAGE TO RECEIVER MAY OCCUR.
(a)  
On weather radar indicator perform following: 1) Rotate GAIN control until just out of PRE-SET position. 2) Depress WX mode selector. 3) Position RANGE switch to each range in succession. Check range marks are

clear and unbroken and appropriate numerics appear with each selection.

(b)  
Position RANGE switch to 200. Check for following:
1) Numerics of 40, 80, 120, 160, and 200.
2) WX in mode field.
3) VAR in sub-mode field.


(c)  
Rotate GAIN control slowly to maximum clockwise position. Check noise display increases until a solid display of multi-color noise appears between 80 and 200 nm.

(d)  
Depress MAP mode selector. Check density of noise increases lightly and MAP is displayed in mode field.

(e)  
Adjust RANGE, GAIN, and TILT controls as required to obtain a ground return, at or near the middle range mark with a minimum of clutter.

NOTE:  A mountain range, well-defined hills, or other large object may be used to obtain the return.

(f)  
Rotate TILT control counterclockwise. Check for increasing display of nearby video returns.

(g)  
Rotate TILT control clockwise. Check nearby video returns are no longer displayed.

(h)  
Rotate TILT control to full up (+15 degrees), decrease tilt until outer most target just comes into view.

(i)  
Position STAB switch to ON. Check radar presentation does not change.

(j)  
If no further tests are required, perform weather radar shut down procedure.

(3)  Antenna Tilt and Stabilization Accuracy Tests
(a)  Perform steps D.(1) thru D.(5). Check STBY is displayed in mode field.
CAUTION: DO NOT OPEN RADOME IF WINDS EXCEED 15 KNOTS.
DO NOT PRY RADOME OR USE ANY LEVER IN SCREW HOLES. A LARGE SUCTION CUP MAY BE PRESSED ON RADOME TO OBTAIN HANDHOLD FOR OPENING. IN ORDER TO PREVENT WIND DAMAGE TO THE RADOME IT IS NECESSARY THAT BOTH RODS, DESIGNED TO SUPPORT THE RADOME WHEN OPEN, BE ATTACHED PROPERLY TO STRUCTURE WHENEVER THE RADOME IS OPEN.
(b)  
Open nose radome as follows:
1) Remove screws attaching aft edge of radome to fuselage bulkhead.
2) Open radome and support in open position by installing support rods.


(c)  
On antenna, remove SCAN switch guard and position azimuth drive switch to OFF.

(d)  
Depress WX mode selector. Check indicator is blank and ANT is flashing in mode field.

(e)  
Depress STBY mode selector.

(f)  
Position indicator TILT control to O.

(g)  
Carefully rotate, by hand, antenna reflector until aligned with 0 degree mark on azimuth scale. Check antenna deflection is 0 +1 degree as read against elevation scale.

(h)  
Rotate TILT control to +15. Check antenna deflection is 15 +1 degrees up.

(i)  
Rotate TILT control to -15. Check antenna deflection is 15 +1 degrees down.

(j)  
Rotate TILT control to 0. Check antenna deflection is 0 +1 degree.

NOTE:  Ensure tilt table pitch and roll axis are set to 0 degrees, and VG is providing valid stabilization signals (ADI ATT flag out of view).

(k)  
Position STAB switch to ON. Check antenna deflection is 0 +1 degree.
