On appropriate VHF/NAV control panel tune:
(a)
On GJ ALL EXCEPT B-2504 and B-2505,
1) Left frequency display - 108.00 MHz
2) Right frequency display -108.05 MHz
3) Position TFR switch -108.00 MHz
(b)
On GJ B-2504 and B-2505,
1) Frequency display -108.00 MHz
(4)
Position test set controls as follows:
(a)
Squitter ON/OFF - OFF
(b)
Distance Display - Slew to 6 miles. DME indicators display dashes
(c)
Squitter ON/OFF -ON. DME indicators displays 6 +0.5 miles.
(5)
Repeat step (4) for 60, 100, and 188 miles.
(6)
Repeat step (4) for 220 miles. Verify DME indicators display dashes.
(7)
Position captain's DME mode selector to O'RIDE. Verify DME displays 220 +0.5 miles.
(8)
On audio selector panel, select NAV-1 and place VOICE/BOTH/RANGE switch to BOTH or RANGE.
(9)
Hold test set IDENT switch in IDENT and verify presence of DME audio.
(10)
Release IDENT switch.
NOTE: DME will break lock-on if IDENT is held for longer than 12 seconds.
(11)
On GJ ALL EXCEPT B-2504 and B-2505, position VHF NAV control panel TFR switch to 108.05 MHz.
(12)
On VHF/NAV control panel, position DME mode selector to NORM or ON. DME should display dashes.
(13)
Position test set controls as follows:
(a)
Squitter ON/OFF - OFF
(b)
X-Y- Y
(c)
Distance Display - Slew to 180 miles.
(d)
Velocity Select - 600
(e)
Velocity IN/OUT - IN
(f)
Squitter ON/OFF -ON. DME will search, lock on, and track smoothly inbound.

Repeat step (13) with Velocity IN/OUT in OUT and distance display beginning at 5 miles.
(15)
Restore airplane and test set to original configuration and remove electrical power if no longer required.

DME ANTENNA - REMOVAL/INSTALLATION
1. Equipment and Materials
A. Equipment
(1)
Sealing gun -6-inch Length cartridge, Senco Research, or equivalent (not required for material furnished in tubes)
(2)
Bonding Meter (Ref 20-22-01)
(3)
Aerodynamic smoother cutting tool - hardwood or plexiglass
(4)
Varnish brush -1- or 2-inch
(5)
Spatula
B. Materials
(1)
Aerodynamic smoother - BMS 5-79, class B-1/2 (Ref 20-30-11)
(2)
Accelerator - as indicated on aerodynamic smoother container (Ref 20-30-11)
(3)
Aliphatic Naphtha - TT-N-95 (Ref 20-30-31)
(4)
Anticorrosion compound -BMS 3-23
2. Remove Antenna
A. Remove four mounting screws (Fig. 401).
B. Using care, lower antenna from mounting until cable can be disconnected.
CAUTION: DO NOT PULL ANTENNA.
C. Disconnect antenna from antenna connector.
D. Remove antenna and O-ring.
3. Install Antenna
A. Use cutting tool to remove aerodynamic smoother from antenna base and mounting area.
B. Remove grease, oil, dirt, and chips from antenna base and mounting area. Use small varnish brush to apply fresh aliphatic naphtha for cleaning. Wipe cleaner off with clean cloth.
C. Clean mating surfaces of antenna and aircraft structure.
D. Apply a protective coat of corrosion preventive compound (Ref 51-21-91 CP).
E. Place O-ring in position on antenna base.
F. Connect antenna cable to antenna connector (Fig. 401).
G. Position antenna in place and install three of the four mounting screws.
H. Check electrical bond between antenna base and airplane skin per 20-22-01.

Connect the ohmmeter or the resistance measuring bridge between the empty antenna mounting screw hole (antenna base plate) and the airplane skin.
(2)
Make sure the resistance is not more than 0.1 ohm.
(3)
Install and tighten the last screw.
