8.0 SSI INSPECTION OPTIONS WITH EXAMPLE DTR CHECK FORMS
This section contains the basic information needed by an operator to complete the DTR Check Forms in Section 11.0. The SSI information in this section is divided into Wing, Fuselage, Empennage, and Flap SSI sections. Within these sections a package of information is provided which includes the following:
.
A List of SSIs
.
SSI to inspection zone/area matrix cross-reference
.
SSIs which include:
.
An illustration showing the general location of the SSI on the airplane
.
Inspection instructions (options)
.
Example DTR Check Forms
Section 5.0 and 7.0 guidelines and the inspection instructions provided in Section 8.0 for each DTR Check Form should be used for guidance when completing the blank DTR Check Forms in Section 11.0 to determine operator supplemental structural inspection requirements with respect to the eligible airplane(s). The Example DTR Check Forms are provided for reference and show a typical maintenance program that complies with the required DTR.
Most operators have maintenance intervals expressed in either flight hours or calendar time. However, to complete the DTR Check Forms, these intervals must be expressed in FLIGHT CYCLES. Therefore, a conversion factor must be established. A periodic review of the conversion factor is required to ensure that operational or maintenance interval changes have not affected operators completed DTR Check Forms such that total DTR has fallen below required DTR.
The sample DTR Check Forms have been completed using the following intervals.
INTERVAL FLIGHT HOURSa FLIGHT CYCLESa
A - CHECK 250 250
C - CHECK 3,000 3,000
D - CHECK 24,000 24,000
a. Used by structures working group to complete sample DTR Check Forms and does not necessarily reflect a typical operator's structures maintenance program.
Conversion factor 1.00 (one flight hour is equivalent to one flight cycle).
NOTE: Some of the examples in this section make use of phased inspections. The FAA no longer allows this process to be used, but revising the example inspections was not done.
8.0.1 Phased inspection programs are not used on example DTR Check Forms for external visual inspections, even if total DTR exceeds the Required DTR.
