.
An interior visual inspection of fuselage structure should, if practical, extend two or three stringer bays and one frame bay beyond the specified SSI area. An exterior visual inspection should extend approximately three to five feet beyond the specific area boundary of the SSI.
.
Discrepancies reported in adjacent structure beyond the SSI boundary, if significant, will be treated as though they occurred in SSI structure.
1. An operator’s eligible fleet consists of all of the operator’s active airplanes that have passed the SSID threshold defined in Section 3.0.
5.0 DTR SYSTEM APPLICATION D6-82669 Original
5.1.14 Operators must assess the visibility of each SSI being inspected relative to the assumed normal condition shown in the sketches and diagrams in this document which is based on normal airplane manufacturing, inspection and maintenance practices.
.
Alternate inspection methods are required if any obstructions, not part of normal condition such as a repair or added equipment, cannot be removed prior to inspection. If assistance is required, contact Boeing per Section 6.0 and provide details.
.
General Visual, Detailed, Magnetic Particle (MT), Fluorescent Penetrant (FPT) only require normal clean-up and typical access except where noted on the DTR Check Form. NDT procedures also identify necessary access requirements.
.
Production applied sealant and corrosion protection finishes shall be removed only when specified. Sealant beads are not shown on sketches but are accounted for in the analysis.
5.1.15 Inspection arrows on the DTR Check Forms are used to identify applicable inspection directions for each zone. For general visual or detailed inspections, all visible parts of the SSI details should be inspected. For example, if the structure detail is a stringer, all visible parts of the stringer should be inspected or, if the structure detail is a spar chord and web, all visible parts of both the spar chord and web should be inspected. For NDT inspections, the arrows indicate the general location of the inspection. Actual inspection locations are specified in the NDT document.
5.1.16 It is not necessary to perform all of the inspection options that are shown on each DTR form. If an additional inspection from one direction provides the required DTR, then that inspection, added to the existing maintenance program, is sufficient and other directions need not be considered.
5.1.17 Inspection requirements for the portion of an SSI that has been replaced with new structure can be deferred until a new threshold, as defined in Section 3.0, is attained.
