ú (3) If the test results show moderate contamination, do a biocide
ú treatment of the fuel tanks within 10-14 days after the test results
ú (AMM 28-11-00/201).
ú (a) After 10 days, get a new fuel/water sample and do the detection
ú test again.

NOTE:____ This test is necessary to make sure the biocide
ú treatment was successful in reducing the microbial
ú contamination to an acceptable level.
ú
ú 1) Make sure all of the biocide treated fuel has been burned
ú through the engines (a minimum of five flights).
ú (b) If the tests show that the biocide treatment was not
ú successful, completely fill the fuel tanks with biocide treated
ú fuel.

NOTE:____ This will make sure that 100% of the fuel tanks are
ú covered with treated fuel.

ú (4) If the test results show negligible levels of microbial
ú contamination, then continue usual operations.
ú (a) Continue to test the aircraft at the usual intervals.

3. Clean the Fuel Tank (Fungus and Corrosion Removal)__________________________________________________
A. General
CAUTION:_______ MAKE SURE YOU REMOVE ALL UNWANTED MATERIALS FROM THE FUEL
TANK WHEN YOU ARE DONE. UNWANTED MATERIALS CAN BLOCK THE PUMPS
AND PREVENT THE SCAVENGE OF WATER.
(1) Fungus, found in hydrocarbon fuels, can cause corrosion in the fuel
tanks. The fungus attaches to the lower surfaces of the fuel tanks.
To remove the fungus from the surfaces of the fuel tank, you must go
into the fuel tank and clean the surfaces with a fiber brush and
