4. Biocide Treatment of Fuel Tanks
_______________________________
A. General
(1)
Contamination in fuel tanks can result from the presence of micro-organisms which live and multiply at the interface of fuel and water. The most effective way to prevent this problem is to reduce, if not eliminate, the amount of water retained in the tanks. Fuel tanks can also be treated periodically with a biocide to minimize problems arising from microbial growth. If a tank inspection should disclose microbial growth, the tank must be cleaned (AMM 28-11-00/701).
