(d)
Pressurize the dry bay in steps: 1) Start at 2.0 psi. 2) If more pressure is necesssary, increase the pressure by
0.5 psi increments.
(e)
Use a good quality grease-cutting detergent soap, diluted with water to a 50 percent solution.
S 796-141
(8)
The leak path between the internal leak point and the external leak point can be a long distance.
(a)
Use a flashlight and an inspection mirror to look for bubbles along the upper and lower stringers and rib chords. Start at the dry bay and move away from it.
(b)
Examine the edges of the dry bay access doors.
S 796-142
(9)
Use more than one person when you search for leaks inside the tank because it is not easy to stay in the tank for a long time.
(a)
A good procedure used by some operators puts one person in the bay outboard of dry bay one, one person aft of each of the access panels for dry bays one thru four, and one person inboard of dry bay four. A different person controls the pressurization of the dry bay, usually through the drain holes for dry bay one and dry bay three. While the person who controls the pressure increases the pressure, the persons in the tank continuously put soap solution on the tank surfaces until the leak(s) are found. The persons in the tank can exchange their positions after the intial pressurization to get independent leak evaluations.
S 796-143
(10)
Find the internal leak point(s) before you try to repair the leak.
