D. Procedure

(1) Use masking tape to make a mark on the cable end fittings.
NOTE: The mark lets you refer to the initial position when you

install the new cable.

Loosen the turnbuckles to release tension (AMM 20-10-10/401).

If you will remove the applicable engine-control cable section, remove the cable stops (AMM 20-10-08/401).

If it is applicable, remove the air seals for the control cable (AMM 20-10-04/401).

Install cable clamps on the cables you do not remove to keep light tension on the cables. If you can isolate the cables between rig pin locations, install the rig pins through the applicable drum or quadrant.
NOTE: Keep light tension on the cables to prevent windoff on the
____ cable drums and to keep the cables in the pulley guides.

(6) Install the new cable at the same time you remove the used cable. Use the used cable to pull the new cable into its position.
NOTE: If you do not attach the new cable to the used cable before
____ you remove the used cable, you will have an installation problem.

(1)
To install a pre-fabricated cable, do these steps:
NOTE: You may wish to replace zinc-only coated cables with
____ tin-over-zinc coated cables to minimize the amount of initial cable stretch.
(a) Remove the pulleys (AMM 20-10-09/401) and control-cable air seals (AMM 20-10-04/401) as it is necessary.
NOTE: Refer to the applicable chapter for cable location.

(b)
Attach the new cable to the used cable.
(c)
Pull the used cable out which also pulls the new cable through. Keep light tension on the new cable.
(d)
Install the pulleys (AMM 20-10-09/401) and air seals
(AMM 20-10-04/401).
(e)
Finish installation according to procedures given in Section (3).

(2) To install a cable that is not pre-fabricated, do these steps:
NOTE: You may wish to replace zinc-only coated cables with

(a)
Identify the cable that you will remove.
(b)
Prepare the new cable as you are told in the applicable system chapter.
(c)
Install only those fittings that will permit the cable installation.
(d)
Apply a proof load to the cable and installed fittings to do a check on swaging and to prestretch the cable (Fig. 401).
NOTE: If you use prestretched cable, it is not necessary to
____ put a load on all of the cable. You do not have to use a proof load. You can use other applicable procedures to do a check on the swaging.
