_______ HOSE AND THE ADJACENT STRUCTURE AFTER YOU TIGHTEN THE CLAMPS. IF THE CLEARANCE IS NOT SUFFICIENT, THE HOSE COULD TOUCH THE ADJACENT STRUCTURE. THIS CAN CAUSE WORN AREAS OR HOSE FAILURE BEFORE THE USUAL TIME.
 (9)  Clamp the hose when it is necessary.

 FLUID LINE TUBING CLAMPS - REMOVAL/INSTALLATION
_______________________________________________
 1.  General_______
 A.  This procedure contains one task. The task is the replacement of block clamps.
 B.  Block clamps are used to hold fluid lines at a specified location.
 C.  Loop-type cushioned tube clamps are used in the fluid line installations to prevent vibration and worn areas.
 (1)  Before you install a nylon loop clamp, make it larger to approximately 1-1/2 times the tube diameter. Do this three or four times to do a test for flexibility. If the clamp feels flexible and does not crack, you can install it.
 D.  For removal/installation procedures of clampshell clamps, refer to 70-20-03 Maintenance Practices.
 E.  There are two types of clampshell clamps.
 (1)  
Unplated shells - used in high vibration and high temperature (up to 800°F) areas.

 (2)  
Cadmium plated shells - used with aluminum tubing only and limited to temperature of 400°F.

Remove the nuts, bolts and washers that hold the block clamp assemblies together.

Remove the block clamp assemblies.


 C.  Procedure - Block Clamp Installation

 (1)  Remove and discard the used tape from the tube.
 NOTE: The condition of used tape on the tube does not always occur.

 (2)  S 214-004At the location of the block clamps and tube overlap, apply three layers of the P421 tape to the tube.
 (3)  S 424-003Apply the tape |.25 inch from each edge of the block.
 (4)  S 434-005Put the tubes in one of the block halves.
 (5)  S 424-006Put the other half of the block assembly in its position.
 (6)  S 434-007Put the channel on the half of the block assembly that the bolt head will touch.
 (7)  S 434-008Put the washers on the bolts and put the bolts through the holes in the block clamp assembly.
 (8)  S 434-009Put the washer and nut on the threaded end of the bolt and tighten the nut.
 NOTE:____ Make sure there is a washer below the bolt head and below the nut. The will help prevent worn areas.
