Transfer control system - Centre tank - Modification to the non-return
valve
1. EFFECTIVITY:
AIRBUS A310 aircraft, A310-304, A310-308, A310-324 and A310-325 models, all serial numbers, fitted
with one or more auxiliary centre tanks (ACT) or provisioned to receive ACT’s on which AIRBUS Service
Bulletin A310-28-2158 has not been embodied
Note: A310-300 Aircraft series MSN 0636 up to MSN 0706 inclusive, on which AIRBUS modification
No. 8928 has been embodied in production, are not concerned by this Airworthiness Directive (AD).
2. REASONS:
An operator has reported that, during flight, it was not possible to transfer fuel from ACT’s 1 and 2.
No ECAM warnings were triggered.
The investigation of the problem revealed that the static inverter 4XE was faulty and the fuse 3XE was
blown. This could result in the loss of the Fuelling bus Bars 900PP and 901PP leading to failure of the
automatic ACT fuel transfer.
These failures, if combined with a failure of the ACT transfer non return valve (NRV) (PN C23AE0102, FIN
280285 in the Center tank) to close, could result in an unsafe condition by preventing manual ACT fuel
transfer.
The aim of this AD is to mandate the replacement of the existing ACT transfer NRV in the center tank
position with the NRV PN C23AE0103 to improve fuel system reliability.
3. MANDATORY ACTIONS AND COMPLIANCE TIMES:
Within 15,000 flight hours at the latest from the effective date of this AD:
- remove the NRV PN C23AE0102 and replace it by a NRV PN C23AE0103 in accordance with the
instructions of AIRBUS Service Bulletin A310-28-2158.
