Heater fuel systems.Eachheaterfuel system must meet eachpowerplantfuel system requirement a.ecting safe heater operation. Each heater fuel system component within the ventilating airstream must be protected by shrouds so that no leakage from those components can enter the ventilating airstream.

(i)
Drains. There must be means to safely drain fuel that might accumulate within the combustion chamber or the heat exchanger. In addition–

(1)
Each part of any drain that operates at high temperatures must be protected in the same manner as heater exhausts; and

(2)
Each drain must be protected from hazardous ice accumulation under any

FAR 25.863 : Flammable .uid .re protection.
(a)
[In each area where .ammable .uids or vapors might escape by leakage of a .uid system, there must be means to minimize the probability of ignition of the .uids and vapors, and the resultant hazards if ignition does occur.]

(b)
Compliance withparagraph(a) ofthis section mustbe shownby analysis ortests, and the following factors must be considered :

(1)
Possible sources and paths of .uid leakage, and means of detecting leakage.

(2)
Flammability characteristics of .uids, including e.ects of any combustible or absorbing materials.

(3)
Possible ignition sources, including electrical faults, overheating of equipment, and malfunctioning of protective devices.

(4)
Means available for controlling or extinguishing a .re, such a stopping .ow of .uids, shutting down equipment, .re-proof containment, or use of extingui-shing agents.

(5)
Ability of airplane components that are critical to safety of .ight to withstand .re and heat.

(c)
If action by the .ight crew is required to prevent or counteract a .uid .re (e.g. equipment shutdown or actuation of a .re extinguisher) quick acting means must be provided to alert the crew.

[Each area where .ammable .uids or vapors might escape by leakage of a .uid

system must be identi.ed and de.ned.] Amdt. 25-46, E.. 12/1/78
FAR 25.865 : [Fire protection of .ight controls, engine mounts, and other .ight structure.]
[Essential .ight controls, engine mounts, and other .ight structures located in de-signated .re zones or in adjacent areas which would be subjected to the e.ects of .re in the .re zone must be constructed of .reproof material or shielded so that they are capable of withstanding the e.ects of .re.] Amdt. 25-23, E.. 5/8/70

[Surfaces to the rear of the nacelles, within one nacelle diameter of the nacelle cen-terline, must be at least .re-resistant.

(b)
Paragraph (a) of this section does not apply to tail surfaces to the rear of the nacelles that could not be readily a.ected by heat, .ames, or sparks coming from a designated .re zone or engine compartment of any nacelle.]

[Electricalsystem components :

(1)
Components of the electrical system must meet the applicable .re and smoke protection requirements of Secs. 25.831(c) and 25.863.

(2)
Electrical cables, terminals, and equipment in designated .re zones, that are used during emergency procedures, must be at least .re resistant.

(3)
Main power cables (including generator cables) in the fuselage must be de-signed to allow a reasonable degree of deformation and stretching without failure and must be–

(i)
Isolatedfrom .ammable .uidlines; or

(ii)
Shrouded by means of electrically insulated, .exible conduit, or equiva-lent, which is in addition to the normal cable insulation.
