2  The following diagram illustrates the process by which the Safety of Operational Trials should be managed. Where the term 'Safety Case' is used, this should be taken to mean full and complete adherence to the ATS provider SMS.
Current State
The Safety Case for the implementation of the Trial System includes reversion to the existing system should the trial results not support progression to the Proposed State
Trial State As an example, the trial system could be the same as the proposed system, and the mitigation could be retention of the existing system alongside
Proposed State The Safety Case for
the Planned system may cover reversion to the Trial State or Current State as appropriate

Procedures for failure of the trials equipment, procedures and / or practices should provide assurance that in the event of short notice failure of the trial, the ability to provide a tolerably safe Air Traffic Management service is not compromised.
