After treating defective surface, rinse parts thoroughly with clean tap water.

Immediately dry part in an oven at 250F (121C) for two hours.

CAUTION: METHANOL (METHYL OR WOOD ALCOHOL) SHALL NOT BE USED AS A CLEANING AGENT WHEN CLEANING MAGNESIUM PARTS. PROLONGED CONTACT WITH UNPROTECTED MAGNESIUM PARTS WILL DESTROY THE PARTS. USING METHANOL WITH MAGNESIUM PARTS IS AUTHORIZED ONLY AS SPECIFICALLY INSTRUCTED FOR REPAIR OR CORRODED SURFACES.
(e)
Spot treat cleaned magnesium areas, or where original surface treatment is not effective, by brushing on magnesium touch-up solution (Dow 19) (Method No. 402H).
NOTE: Maintain magnesium touch-up solution (Dow 19) (Method No. 402H) at temperature of 160 to 200F (71 to 93C). Treatment shall be allowed to remain on surface for a minimum of five minutes.
(f)
Cover treated surface with one coat of primer (Type I, Class C) (SECTION VII).
(g)
Air-dry 15 to 30 minutes, then bake one hour at 150 to 175F (66 to 79C), or 30 minutes at 135 to 149C (275 to 300F).
(h)
Touch up bare spots on painted surfaces (Method No. 409A).
B. Method No. 406B: Heavy Damage Repair
Repair heavy damage to magnesium-alloy parts as follows:
WARNING: AQUEOUS CLEANER/DEGREASING SOLUTION IS A MILD IRRITANT. AVOID DIRECT EYE OR SKIN CONTACT BECAUSE IT MAY CAUSE IRRITATION AND REDNESS. AVOID INHALING SPRAY MIST VAPORS THAT MAY CAUSE IRRITATION.
(1)
Vapor degrease (SECTION II) part in Aqueous Cleaner/Degreasing Solution (Daraclean 282) or (Brulin 81560 or 1990) (SECTION VII) for 20 to 30 minutes.
(2)
Strip paint from entire surface of part by soaking in paint and carbon remover (Turco XE-092W) (SECTION VII) or (Strip-Sol) (SECTION VII).
NOTE: Ensure paint is completely removed from part.
WARNING: USE EXTREME CAUTION TO PREVENT CONTACT WITH SKIN. IF POWDER OR MIXED SOLUTION COMES IN CONTACT WITH SKIN, FLUSH OFF IMMEDIATELY WITH WATER. DO NOT INHALE DUST FROM POWDERS OR VAPORS FROM THE SOLUTION.
(3) Immerse part in magnesium touch-up solution (Dow 1) (Method No. 402G) until bubbling of solution stops.

Thoroughly rinse part in clean tap water, flushing inserts, passages, and ports.
(5)
Immediately oven dry part at 250F (121C) for two hours.
(6)
Inspect part for remaining corrosion.
NOTE: Remove any remaining corrosion with abrasive (Scotch-Brite) (SECTION VII).
(7)
Inspect part for allowable limits in accordance with applicable manual.
(8)
Repeat rinse and dry as specified in Steps (4) and (5).
