(4)  Grit blast surface to be coated using aluminum oxide grit (120 Mesh) (SECTION VII) at nozzle pressure specified in applicable manual.
WARNING: METHYL-ETHYL-KETONE (MEK) IS TOXIC AND FLAMMABLE.  USE IN WELL-VENTILATED AREA. AVOID BREATHING FUMES OR CONTACT WITH SKIN. OBSERVE ALL FIRE PRECAUTIONS.
CAUTION: DO NOT ALLOW TITANIUM PARTS TO CONTACT CHLORINATED SOLVENTS.
(5)
Vapor degrease area to be coated, using methyl-ethyl-ketone (MEK) (ASTM D470) (SECTION VII).

(6)
Protect prepared surfaces from contamination by covering with clean paper if surfaces are not immediately coated. Coating material shall be applied in such a manner as to minimize the trapping of air.

NOTE: Do not touch prepared surface with bare hands.

(7)
Apply a thin coat of adhesive (EA-929) (SECTION VII), approximately 0.005 inch (0,127 mm) thick, to prepared surface, using a spatula (SECTION VII).  Coating shall have a raked surface texture prior to application of abradable coating compound.

(8)
Apply abradable coating compound (ADX-352) (SECTION VII) over adhesive, using pressure extrusion gun (SECTION VII) with special fan shaped extrusion nozzle (SECTION VII). Allow a minimum of 0.030 inch (0,762mm) excess coating on surface for finish machining.

(9)
Contact of abradable coating compound to adhesive shall be ensured by lightly pressing on surface coating with spatula, moistened with toluene (Federal Specification TT-T-548) (SECTION VII) and dragging it over coating surface at a slight angle.

(10)
Cure abradable coating at 225 to 275F (109 to 135C) for two hours, then for one additional hour at 325 to 375F (163 to 191C).

WARNING: USE CORRECT PERSONAL PROTECTION.  PROCEDURES THAT NEED GRIND/MACHINE WORK WILL CAUSE LOOSE PARTICLES THAT CAN GET IN YOUR EYES.

(11)
Machine abradable coating surface to limits specified in applicable manual.

(12)
Check abradable coatings for uniformity in color, texture, and composition.   Appearance of dark spots or streaks in coating shall be checked with a metal probe to determine cure. Coatings that show evidence of soft spots shall be rejected.

(13)
Coatings shall contain no voids over one-quarter inch in size or closer together than one inch. Grouping of smaller voids is acceptable.

(14)
Roughen abradable coatings containing voids exceeding one-quarter inch in size and areas that do not clean up during machining, using a wire brush.

(15)
Clean surface using methyl-ethyl-ketone (MEK) (ASTM D470) (SECTION VII) and allow to dry.

(16)
Fill voids with abradable coating compound (ADX-352) (SECTION VII), using a spatula (SECTION VII), being careful not to trap air. Overfill void to allow for finish machining.

(17)
Cure abradable coating at 225 to 275F (109 to 135C) for two hours, then for one additional hour at 325 to 375F (163 to 191C).

(18)
Machine abradable coating surface to limits specified in applicable manual.

H. Method No. 403H: Silver Plating Repair
Silver plated part repairs should be performed as follows:
NOTE:  If the type of silver plating is not specified in applicable manual, Type I, II, or III is acceptable.
Plating thickness, unless otherwise specified in applicable manual, shall be 0.0005 inch (0,00127 mm) minimum on all surfaces on which silver is functionally necessary. The plating on non-functional surfaces and areas shall be of a thickness to ensure plating continuity and uniformity, appearance and protection.
