(8)  Prepare non-separable bearings for analyzer check as follows:
(a)
Demagnetize bearings so residual magnetism does not exceed five gauss.

(b)
Vapor degrease bearings. (SECTION II, Method No. 203B.)

WARNING: SOLVENT VAPORS ARE TOXIC AND FLAMMABLE.  DO NOT INHALE. OBSERVE FIRE PRECAUTIONS.

(c)
Dip soak bearings in clean solvent (Federal Specification P-D-680, Type I).  Do not remove bearings from dip soak until ready for analyzer check.

WARNING: SOLVENT VAPORS ARE TOXIC AND FLAMMABLE.  DO NOT INHALE VAPORS. OBSERVE FIRE PRECAUTIONS.
CAUTION: DURING CLEANING, DO NOT PERMIT HIGH ROTATIONAL SPEEDS OF BEARINGS AS DAMAGE CAN RESULT.  SLOW ROTATIONAL SPEEDS ARE PERMISSIBLE.
(d)
Remove bearing from dip soak. Spray bearing using solvent (Federal Specification P-D-680, Type I).

WARNING: USE CORRECT PERSONAL PROTECTION.  COMPRESSED AIR WILL CAUSE LOOSE PARTICLES THAT CAN GET IN YOUR EYES. COMPRESSED AIRFLOW CAN CAUSE CUTS, DO NOT POINT IT AT YOUR SKIN.

(e)
Pressure air-dry (20 psig (137,895 kPa) maximum) parts until free of moisture.

(f)
Lubricate bearing to be checked using filtered oil (MIL -L-6085) (SECTION VII).

(9)  Perform bearing analyzer check on non-separable bearings as follows:
NOTE:  The following procedures apply only when using Bearing Analyzer (Electronic Bearing Analyzer Model BA-20-3. (See Figure 318.)
(a)
Obtain a Master Bearing from Bearing Inspection Inc., (SECTION VII).  Using the Master Bearing, calibrate the analyzer in accordance with manufacturer instructions.

(b)
Install bearing to be inspected on analyzer in accordance with manufacturer’s instructions.

NOTE:  E PEAK to PEAK limits and RMS (Root Mean Squared) readings contained in overhaul manuals are measured using selector switch settings listed in Figure 318.

(c)
Set switch selectors of Bearing Analyzer Model BA-20-3 per Figure 318.

(d)
Perform analyzer check of bearing in accordance with manufacturer instructions.

NOTE:  Bearing shall conform to bearing analyzer inspection standards as specified in applicable manual for unit in work.

(e)
If bearing was pre-oiled, clean bearing using vapor degreaser (SECTION II, Method No. 203B).

NOTE:  An asterisk is etched onto bearings receiving inspection during overhaul of an engine. Engine time since new to overhaul or overhaul bearings constitutes one cycle for the bearing. Repair engine bearings that are removed and inspected do not receive an asterisk.
