B. Method No. 416B: Damaged Threads Corrected By Keensert.
NOTE: Damaged or oversize threads in aluminum or magnesium (where wall thicknesses are
0.035 inch or greater at thinnest point) may be processed to resultant drawing thread requirements using suitable Keensert. installation.
CAUTION: DO NOT INSTALL ANY STEEL INSERTS INTO ALUMINUM OR MAGNESIUM ALLOYS UNTIL AFTER PART HAS BEEN PROTECTIVE COATED (ANODIZE OR ANODIC COAT).
(1)
Prepare for suitable Keensert., to meet resultant thread requirements, as required by manual.

(2)
Deburr as required (touch up bare metal at rework area, chromate conversion coat aluminum in accordance with MIL-C-5541 and magnesium with Dow 1 or 19. in accordance with product specification).

(3)
Flush and clean to remove foreign material.

(4)
Install suitable Keensert. as noted in accordance with product specification.

(5)
Visually inspect.

C.  Method No. 416C: Damaged Threads Corrected By Threaded Shouldered Plug
NOTE:  Damaged or oversize threads in any material may be processed to obtain manual thread requirements by using threaded shouldered plug of like material and hardness.

0.050 inch minimum wall thickness at thinnest point.
Wall thickness, both plug and housing, shall not be less than 0.050 inch at thinnest point after final machining.
(1)
Machine the nonconforming diameter oversize for a like material, threaded, shouldered plug per Figure 412.

(2)
Machine a threaded, shouldered plug of like material, hardness, and protective finish per Figure 412. Also, machine anti-rotation pin per Figure 412. For pin, use like material and hardness.

(3)
Deburr housing as required, touch up bare metal at reprocess area, (Dow 1 or 19. in accordance with product specification-magnesium; chromate conversion coat in accordance with MIL-C-5541-aluminum).

(4)
Inspect steps (1) through (3).

(5)
Clean reprocess area (plug and housing) with acetone or degrease.  Install plug (full depth) using compound in accordance with product specification.

(6)
Drill and ream for and install anti-rotation pin to secure as per Figure 412. Do not violate

0.050 inch minimum wall with pin.

(7)
Remachine to manual requirements.

(8)
Deburr as required in accordance with manual.

17. Adjustment of Geometric Area
A.  Method No. 417A: Geometric Area Adjustment of Vanes
Vane assembly area may be adjusted to manual requirements when manual limits are not met. Adjustment of area may be accomplished by any one or combination of the following methods.
NOTE: These processes do not apply to cooled vanes.
Adjustment may be made in one direction only, never both.
(1)
Shot Peen:  This is the preferred method of adjustment when applicable.  Area can be increased or decreased. With care, coated vanes can be adjusted, although it is preferred to adjust on uncoated vanes. This method deflects the trailing edge of vane so it is limited by the amount of deflection.
