field elevation, the preselect knob must be rotated away
from and back to the desired altitude to arm the mode. When within 250 ft. of selected altitude, the steady amber light will go out and capture mode will be annunciated. Continue to rotate until 250 ft. off captured altitude and observe flashing amber and aural tone. Place the DFGS selector switch to position two and repeat the above procedure using the First Officer’s altimeter. Reset current altimeter setting and verify field elevation. Rotate the altitude select knob until the desired altitude is set in the altitude select indicator. Pull indicator selector knob out and observe ALT in the arm annunciator.
. VHF Navigation Radios Prior to the first flight of the day, accomplish the following check at stations where a VOT signal is available. Select the VOT frequency on both VOR receivers. Set RMI selector switches to VOR position. Select either 180 or 360 in each CDI course window.
Check that the VOR pointers point to 180 degrees. Check that the course arrow indicates the same course as selected in the window. The To-From arrow, should show TO with 180 selected, FROM with 360 set in the window. The course deviation indicators should be
centered. If necessary, rotate the appropriate course knob to center the course deviation indicator. Check that the error is within VOT check tolerances, plus or minus 4 degrees, and Captain’s and First Officer’s indicators are within four degrees of each other.
The initial VHF Nav frequency and initial course may be set at this time if the ATC clearance has been received.
OTHER FLIGHTS
.
Perform Autoland Preflight Test as described above if necessary.
.
Verify bank angle selector is set to 15°.
.
Set departure initial altitude, heading, course, and VHF frequencies.
Fire Control Panel (FFOD)..........................................................CHECKED
FIRST FLIGHT OF DAY
(If this step was previously accomplished, it may be omitted at this point.)
Verify that both the MASTER CAUTION and MASTER WARNING lights are OFF. Check both fire shutoff handles are full forward. Simultaneously depress both Loop A and Loop B test buttons. A steady fire warning bell should sound and 14 warning/caution lights should illuminate. (A red light in each fire shutoff handle, two red MASTER WARNING lights, two MASTER CAUTION lights, the FIRE DETECTOR LOOP light, APU FIRE light, and six loop detector lights.) The bell may be silenced during the test by pressing the FIRE BELL OFF button.. Verify AGENT LOW lights are out (tested during the annunciator/digital light test).
Note: On some aircraft the MASTER CAUTION lights will not illuminate during the fire warning test.
OTHER FLIGHTS
No test is necessary.
Art Switch (FLOW)...............................................................................AUTO
FIRST FLIGHT OF DAY
Verify ART switch is in AUTO.
OTHER FLIGHTS
Same as FIRST FLIGHT OF DAY.
Flight Instruments, Altimeters..............C+F..............CHECKED, ____SET
FIRST FLIGHT OF DAY
.
Altimeters Rotate the BARO set knob until desired setting is in the MB/IN HG readouts. Check the indicated altitude is approximately correct relative to field elevation. The Captain’s, First Officer’s, and standby altimeters should indicate within 60 feet of each other and + 30 feet of field elevation. (Add 5 feet to field elevation for aircraft location).
The barometric altimeter internal bug may be set to single engine acceleration altitude.
.
Standby Horizon Indicator Observe that the warning flag is out of view. Pull the knob to cage
the indicator, then release. A 3° error in pitch or roll is not acceptable.
.
Mach/Airspeed Indicators
Observe the indicator for normal indications. Normal, static indications at sea level are: airspeed pointer approximately zero. VMO pointer approximately 340 knots. Mach readout window should display 0.150. No flags visible.
.
ADIs
Push the ADI test button. Observe that the ADI indicates a climbing right turn. Approximately 10 degrees of pitch, 20 degrees of bank, and ATT flag in view. Release the test button and verify that the ADI returns to its pre-test position. Crosscheck the slip indicators for agreement.
.
Radio Altimeters
Observe DH lights are out. Push and hold the SET TEST knob. Observe height scale indicates 40 feet, warning flag drops into view, and both DH lights are on. Release knob and observe pre-test position. On the ground, the Captain’s and First Officer’s radio altimeters must indicate within 10 feet of each other.
