In the NORM position, the standby ignition system is off. However, the system automatically switches to position 1 (switch remains in NORM position), which supplies power to ignition system 1, if normal electrical power is lost.

In position 1 or 2, the selected ignition system utilizes standby bus aircraft power to supply ignition. These positions override other selectors regardless of their position.
(4)
When standby ignition system is selected, a memo message (STBY IGNITION ON) will show on the main EICAS display.
D. Selector for the automatic (AUTO) ignition control
(1)
The selector for the AUTO ignition control determines which ignition system operates continuously when flaps are out of zero detent, engine nacelle anti-ice is on, or during engine start cycle with N2 less than 50%.
(2)
Position BOTH operates both ignition systems simultaneously, while position 1 operates ignition system 1 and position 2 operates ignition system 2.

E. Continuous (CON) ignition switch
(1)
The CON ignition switch, when in the ON positon, operates the selected ignition system(s) on AUTO selector continuously.
(2)
When continuous ignition is selected, a memo message (CON IGNITION ON) will show on the main EICAS display.
(3)
When power is supplied to the system from the standby ac battery bus, continuous ignition system does not operate.
3. Engine AUTOSTART Switch

A. There is one AUTOSTART switch for each engine. The switches are found on the Electronic Engine Control Module on the P5 overhead panel.
B. When AUTOSTART switch is set to ON, the supplemental control unit (SCU) can oversee engine starting sequence. Also during ground start, the SCU controls the alternate use of the igniter plug if the selector for the AUTO ignition control is not set to the BOTH position. For more information on the engine AUTOSTART system, refer to AMM 80-11-00/001, Engine Starting System - D&O. For more information on the SCU, refer to AMM 73-21-00/001, Fuel Control System - D&O.
4. Fuel Control Switch (Fig. 1)

A. The fuel control switch, found on the control stand, must be in the RUN position in order for the selected ignition system(s) to be energized. When you set the fuel control switch to the RUN position, it also opens the wing spar valve and the engine fuel shutoff valve.
B. In the CUTOFF position, the wing spar valve and engine fuel shutoff valve are closed, and the ignition system is de-energized.

A. Functional Description

The engine ignition system is operative when supplied with 115 volt ac power, and is controlled by the engine start switch and the fuel control switch.
