 (1)  
Remove the ignition exciter (AMM 74-11-01/401).

 (2)  
Visually examine the ignition exciter for dirt and damage in these areas:

 (a)
Dirt or unwanted items in the contact well area.

 1)  If they are found, clean the contact well area (AMM 74-11-01/701).

 (b)  
Damaged pins or pins that were bent in the electrical connector. 1) If the pins were bent, make them straight with a needlenose

 


 pliers.

2)  If the pins are damaged, replace the ignition exciter (AMM 74-11-01/401).
 (c)  Damage or signs of arcing or flashover on the output receptacle well.
 NOTE: Signs of arcing are pitting or discoloration on the
____ contact button. A sign of flashover is carbon tracking.
 1) If you see much pitting, discoloration, or carbon tracking, replace the ignition exciter (AMM 74-11-01/401). 2) Remove small quantities of discoloration, pitting, and carbon tracking (AMM 74-11-01/701).
 CAUTION:_______BE CAREFUL WHEN YOU REPAIR THE THREADS. THE REPAIRS CAN MAKE BURRS WHICH CAN CAUSE DAMAGE TO THE THREADS.
 (d)  
Damage on the threads of the electrical connector and output receptacle. 1) For small quantities of damage, repair the threads of the

 electrical connector or output receptacle with a thread die. 2) If a thread die cannot repair the damage, replace the ignition exciter (AMM 74-11-01/401).

 (e)  
Cracks, dents, or abrasions on or in the ignition exciter case.


 1)  If cracks, dents, or abrasions are found, replace the ignition exciter (AMM 74-11-01/401).

 (3)  Install the ignition exciter (AMM 74-11-01/401).
