 AUTOMATIC DIRECTION FINDER SYSTEM - TROUBLE SHOOTING

 1.  General_______
 A.  The following trouble shooting procedures are based on performance of the system test and are presented in a tree-type format to aid in rapid fault isolation.
 B.  When a test step does not check out, find the box containing the trouble symptom and perform the stated action. Continue to follow a single line by analyzing the results of each test step until the required corrective action is determined. Perform the specified corrective action, then repeat the step at which the failure was encountered and complete the test to check out the system.
 C.  Since two ADF (automatic direction finder) systems are installed, trouble shooting can be performed by swapping suspect units between the systems.
 D.  All trouble shooting procedures are based on the assumption that wiring is OK and that electrical power is available. If the corrective action in the procedure does not correct the problem, check wiring using the wiring diagram.
 2.  Prepare for Trouble Shooting____________________________
 A.  Provide electrical power (AMM 24-22-00/201).
 B.  Make sure these circuit breakers are closed:
 Panel P18_________  Panel P6
 ADF-1 DC ADF-2 DC
 ADF-1 AC ADF-2 AC

 C.  Make sure the captain's and first officer's 5 volt ac circuit breaker located on the P41 and P42 panels are closed.
 D.  Make sure the Flight Interphone System is on (AMM 23-51-00/501).
 E.  Select the ADF systems on the audio selector panels.
 F.  Set the VOR/ADF switches on the RDDMIs to the ADF position.
 G.  Do these steps on the ADF control panel:
 (1)
Set the mode switches to the ANT position.

 (2)
Set the TONE switch to the off position.

 (3)
Turn the GAIN controls to the fully clockwise position.

 H.  Set both IRS mode selectors to the ATT position.
 I.  Wait for the ALIGN light to go off (approximately 30 seconds).
 J.  On the IRS ISDU, set the DSPL switch to the HDG/STS position and enter a heading of 000 degrees.
 K.  On both EFIS control panels, set the HSI mode selector switch to the EXP VOR/ILS position and set the VOR/ADF switch to the ON position.
 (1) Make sure the VOR/ADF switches are illuminated.
 L.  Make sure the EFIS Current Status is operational (AMM 34-22-00/501).
