DME SYSTEM - ADJUSTMENT/TEST

1. General_______
A. This procedure has two tasks. One is an operational test, the other is a system test. The operational test is a fast check of the DME system by the system BITE. The system test first does the operational test, Then it does a test of the DME's identification reception with external test equipment.
B. These tests can be done on DME system 1 or 2 with the use of the correct VHF NAV control panel and the DME readout on the captain's and first officer's RDDMI.

Make sure these circuit breakers at the P6 and P18 panel are closed:
DME-1 AC VHF NAV-1 DC DME-2 AC VHF NAV-2 DC INSTR XFMR-1 AC INSTR XFMR-2 AC
D. Procedure

(1) Do these steps at the VHF NAV control panel:
(a)
Set the MAN mode on the VHF NAV control panel.
1) Make sure the MANUAL frequency display shows the VHF NAV frequency and AUTO frequency display is blank.
(b)
Set the LIGHTS switch on P2 panel to the TEST position.
(c)
Make sure both AUTO and MAN switch/indicators are on.
(d)
Make sure both AUTO and MANUAL frequency blinks 188.88 readout.
(e)
Set the LIGHTS switch to the BRT position.
(f)
Set the 108.00 MHz frequency on the MANUAL frequency display.
(g)
Set the VOR-DME TEST switch to the DME position.
1) Make sure within a few seconds, captain's and first officer's RDDMI DME indicators shows 000.0 .
(h)
Set the VOR-DME TEST switch to the center position.

(3) Put the DME test set approximately 40 feet from DME antenna.
(a) Make sure there is no blockage between the test set and DME antennas. (Run the test on a line-of-sight basis).

(4) Calibrate the ramp test set as shown in the test set instructions book.
E. DME System Test

(1) Do the DME System - Operational Test.
NOTE: Before you start the test, make sure the other VHF NAV
____ control panel is tuned to a frquency other than the test frequency.
