at the European level will mean that we can
continue this work at pace.
There is no doubt that these new competences
will provide both the European
Commission and EUROCONTROL with new
opportunities and challenges – challenges
which this publication usefully outlines. We
count on EUROCONTROL for your expertise
and support in making the SES II package
a reality, particularly with regard to the
new performance scheme and the network
manager functions, but also in the extension
of the European Aviation Safety Agency’s
competences to ATM safety. I am convinced
that the proposed reform of EUROCONTROL
will enable you to meet these new challenges
eff ectively.
I am proud of the success we have had
so far and I am convinced that, by working
closely together on the new challenges we
face, this project will continue to reap positive
rewards for the aviation industry and EU
citizens at large.
I am also confi dent that the excellent
cooperation that this Commission had with
EUROCONTROL will continue under the
next Commission.
IT IS A great pleasure for me to contribute to
EUROCONTROL‘s 2010 yearbook after such a
successful year working together. Our ambitious
project to create a Single European Sky
is taking shape and the events of this past
year mark a major step forward in constructing
an air traffi c management (ATM) system
that is able to cope with the future growth
of aviation.
