Recent formal agreements between
EUROCONTROL and ICAO have given greater
scope to a long-standing initiative designed
to support the fundamental tenets of a sound
air transport system – transparency and
sharing of information – while at the same
time favouring exchanges of expertise and
knowledge that can eventually be of benefit
to other regions of the world through ICAO.
As EUROCONTROL moves ahead with the
SES Air Traffic Management (ATM) Research
environmental sustainability over one of the
most congested airspaces in the world.
As Executive Secretary of the European
Civil Aviation Commission for some 13 years,
I am also intimately aware of the exceptional
cooperative relationship between EUROCONTROL
and the International Civil Aviation
Organization (ICAO), the organisation I
now have the privilege of leading.
For decades, this collegial and productive
partnership has led to groundbreaking
initiatives such as the development of the
Performance Based Navigation concept.
There has also been practical and substantive
involvement in the European Air
Navigation Planning Group supported by
many activities such as the Route Network
Development Group, the ICAO EUR/NAT
Regional Database and the RVSM Regional
Monitoring Agency.
Engineering solutions
Engineering is at the heart of the IDS methodology, leading

implemented alongside and operate with legacy and
related systems, protecting investment.
Global presence, worldwide experience
IDS has the largest installed base of any supplier in the
fi eld, including four of the fi ve most infl uential operators in
air navigation.
Major operators and key accounts in the air navigation
industry in more than 20 countries now use IDS solutions
and services to help them approach such demanding
requirements as effectively and strategically as possible.
From early beginnings in 1980 providing engineering
and technical services to ENAV, the Italian ANSP, IDS
has developed standard, industry specifi c solutions
and services to meet needs worldwide, in organisations
ranging from leaders in AIS developments such as DFS in
Germany, NavCanada in North America, and RAAF AIS in
Australia and ENAV, to specialist service providers such
as Sweden’s EAG/NavTech and Jeppesen.
