% CHAPTER 37 % VACUUM SYSTEM % 1. General
% The DA 40 with the TAE 125 Diesel engine has a vacuum system. The system uses the vacuum pump % that is part of the TAE 125 Diesel engine. You cannot replace the vacuum pump. If you have trouble % with the pump, refer to the engine manufacturer.
% 2. Description
% Figure 1 shows the vacuum system schematic diagram. Figure 2 shows the installation and locations. % A vacuum pump that is integral with the engine powers the system. A flexible hose connects the pump % to a vacuum regulating valve located on the aft face of the firewall. A small orifice in the pipe restricts % the airflow to the correct level for the system.

% The inlet pipe of the valve goes through the firewall. Nuts on the inlet pipe attach the valve to the % firewall. The regulator valve has an adjuster at the bottom. You can adjust the valve to give the % correct suction, usually between 4.8 and 5.4 inHg.
% A flexible hose goes from the regulator valve to a directional gyro located on the left of the instrument % panel. A flexible hose goes from the directional gyro to an inlet filter located on the instrument panel % floor. A small flexible hose goes from the directional gyro to a suction gauge located at the top of the % instrument panel.
% 3. Operation
% The vacuum pump reduces the air pressure in the system. Air flows into the air filter. It flows to the % directional gyro. In the directional gyro it passes through a nozzle and operates a small turbine. The % outlet from the turbine flows to the vacuum pump.
% The suction gauge connects to the main flow in the directional gyro. The gauge shows the vacuum % (suction) at the inlet to the gyro.
