% A. Bendix/King KLN 89B GPS Receiver
% Figure 1 shows the Bendix/King KLN 89B GPS receiver. It is located in the avionics rack in the % instrument panel, see Chapter 31.
% The avionics bus or, if installed, the essential avionics bus supplies power to the GPS receiver. % The ALT/BAT switch and the AVIONICS MASTER switch must be set to ON to supply power % through the GPS circuit-breaker to the GPS receiver. Refer to Chapter 92 for the wiring diagrams.
% Every 28 days, Bendix/King receives new data base information. This information is downloaded % onto data base cards. The data base card is inserted in the slot on the left side of the GPS % receiver.
% There are three data base coverage areas available for the KLN 89B. They are known as the % 'Americans' data base, the 'Atlantic' data base, and the 'Pacific' data base.
% The KLN 89B GPS receiver has these controls:
%) ON-OFF knob. It is used to turn the unit on and off.
%) Right outer knob. When the cursor is off, it is used to select the page type (for example, APT, % NAV, FPL, etc.). When the cursor is on, it is used to move the cursor on the display.
%) Right inner knob - When the cursor is off, it is used to select the specific page number for a % page type (for example, APT 1, APT 2, APT 3, etc.). When the cursor is on, it is used to select % alphanumerics or other applicable data for the field the cursor is on.
%) CRSR (cursor) button. It is used to turn the cursor on and off.
%) MSG (message) button. It is used to view messages.
%) OBS button. It is used to select between LEG mode and OBS modes.
%) ALT (altitude) button. It is used to select the two Altitude Pages where baro settings are made % and VNAV operation is set up.
%) NRST (nearest) button. It is used to bring up a menu of nearest functions (Airports, VOR's, % NDB's, intersections, etc.) that may be selected.

” (direct-to) button. It is used to initiate 'direct-to' operation (navigation from the present % position direct to the destination).
%) CLR (clear) button. It is used to delete data from a data field.
%) ENT (enter) button. It is used to approve or acknowledge data.
