(2)
The INST XFMR-1, INST XFMR-2, ADF 1 and ADF 2 circuit breakers on the P18 and P6 electronic circuit breaker panels must be closed.
(3)
On each RMI, set the source selector switches to the ADF position.
(4)
For each ADF system, when the function switch is positioned to ADF and the receiver is tuned to receive a radio station, the appropriate ADF needle in each RMI should point toward the received station, confirming that the system is operating properly.

AUTOMATIC DIRECTION FINDER (ADF) SYSTEM - TROUBLE SHOOTING
1. General
A. Since duplicate ADF systems are installed in the airplane, and each pilot’s RMI may receive signals from both systems, trouble shooting can be accomplished quite readily. Interchanging antenna inputs to components may prove to be the most practical method to isolate antenna system malfunctions. Erratic indications from either ADF system may be isolated to a single component by following the trouble charts.

AUTOMATIC DIRECTION FINDER SYSTEMS - ADJUSTMENT/TEST
1. Automatic Direction Finder (ADF) Systems Test
A. General
(1) Check that interphone system is operational before this test is performed (Ref 23-52-0, Interphone System). The interphone system is used for monitoring audio output of ADF receivers.
B. Prepare for Test
(1)
Provide electrical power (Ref 24-22-0, MP).
(2)
Check that following circuit breakers on panel P18 are closed.
(a)
ADF No. 1
(b)
Compass System
(c)
Instrument Transformer No. 1
(3)
Check that following circuit breakers on panel P6 are closed.
(a)
ADF No. 2
(b)
Compass System
(c)
Interphone System
(d)
Instrument Transformer No. 1
(e)
Control Cabin Lighting, Panel and Instrument 28V Primary F/O and CAPT & CTR
(4)
Check that captain's and first officer's 5-volt ac circuit breaker located on the P41 and P42 panels are closed.
(5)
Turn on radio master power switch.
(6)
Set VOR/ADF selector switch on each RMI to ADF.
(7)
Set mode selector switch on the captain's and first officer's ADF control panels to ANT position, TONE switch to TONE, and GAIN control to maximum.
(8)
Select ADF-1 on audio selector panels. Adjust audio gain control for adequate listening level.
