Using tilt table, simulate 0 degrees pitch and 15 degrees right roll. Check antenna deflection, read against elevation scale, is 15 +1 degrees down.

(o)
Rotate antenna reflector, by hand, to 0 degree azimuth. Check antenna deflection is 0 +1 degree.

(p)
Position azimuth drive switch (on antenna) to ON and replace SCAN switch guard.

CAUTION:  ENSURE PERSONNEL ARE STANDING CLEAR OF SCANNING ANTENNA REFLECTOR.

(q)
Depress WX mode selector. Check antenna scans 80 +5 degrees left and right from dead ahead at six to seven cycles per minute.

WEATHER RADAR SYSTEM - DESCRIPTION AND OPERATION
EFFECTIVITY

Airplanes with Collins WXR-700X Weather Radar
1. General (Fig. 1 and 2)
A.  Weather radar is a navigation system which uses the reflection of microwave energy from water particles to gain knowledge of weather conditions ahead of the airplane. The strength of the reflected radar depends on the concentration of water particles present in the air.
B.  The weather radar system consists of receiver/transmitter unit, indicator, waveguide, and antenna assembly (Fig. 1).
C.  The weather radar operates in the X-band and has a penetration range through relatively light intervening rainfall to detect distant rainfall storm areas up to 240 nautical miles (Fig. 2).
D.  On the weather radar indicator, four colors (green, yellow, red, and magenta) represent increasing levels of rainfall concentration. With the system in weather (WX) mode, the heaviest rainfall indications are displayed in magenta. Strong echoes may also return from other objects (such as mountains) and may also be displayed on the indicator.
E.  During operation, the system monitors its performance automatically and displays on the indicator an out of tolerance conditions. When a failure is detected in the system, a FAIL message will appear on the indicator. An alphanumeric presentation of the system component which failed will also appear on the indicator (T/R receiver-transmitter, ANT antenna, DSP indicator). In the event that more than one unit fails, the failed units will be presented in order of their priority (1 T/R, 2 ANT, 3 DSP). Other fault conditions, such as loss of calibration or stabilization, result in alphanumeric display. In the TEST mode a test pattern is generated on the indicator, and an antenna tilt test is automatically performed.

2. Receiver/Transmitter
A.  The weather radar receiver/transmitter (R/T) is size 8 MCU arinc 600 form factor. The R/T unit is installed in a rack which has a quick-disconnect waveguide fitting. The R/T is mounted in a shock mount in the pressurized area just aft of the nose radome at body station 200.
