Message slot 13 - Located at the bottom right, left of message slot 14, displays the system stabilization status. For stabilized operation, STAB selected and VG-2 providing proper inputs, this slot will be blank. USTB will be displayed for a selected unstabilized condition (STAB pushbutton out). A flashing ATT will be displayed when an attitude input failure is detected (VG-2 is providing invalid pitch or roll signals). SAT will be displayed when the systems stabilization limits are exceeded due to unusual attitude maneuvers (15 degrees of antenna tilt and airplane has more than 30 degrees of pitch/roll).
(10)
Message slot 14 - Located in the bottom right corner, displays the antennas selected tilt position. The message characters are +15.00 to -15.00 in 0.25 increments. Should the antenna tilt be different than the selected tilt, the antenna failure message will be displayed (a flashing FAIL in message slot 2 and an ANT message in slot 7).
D. When the TEST mode is selected, the entire system is energized. The receive-transmit circuits are tested (system transmits) for one second and then are muted. A tilt and scan test is performed for the next 15 seconds ending electronically locked in boresight position and a test pattern of four concentric colored arcs appears on the indicator (Fig. 101).
E. The R/T front panel contains an elapsed time counter, OVERTEMP indicator, and overtemp RESET switch.
(1)
The elapsed time counter indicates number of hours of operation.
(2)
The OVERTEMP indicator annunciates if power supply temperature exceeds minimum cooling requirements.
(3)
The overtemp RESET switch allows the overtemp indicator to be reset to the no-fault position.
2. Prepare for Trouble Shooting
A. Check WEA RDR RT and IND circuit breakers on panel P6 are not flagged with Do-Not-Operate identifiers.
B. Observe following precaution when operating the weather radar system.
WARNING: DO NOT OPERATE WEATHER RADAR WHILE THE AIRPLANE IS BEING REFUELED OR DEFUELED AND DO NOT OPERATE IN ANY RADIATING MODE WHILE A FUELING OPERATION IS BEING CONDUCTED WITHIN 300 FEET OF THE ANTENNA OR AN EXPLOSION MAY OCCUR.
PERSONNEL MUST NOT ENTER AN AREA CLOSER THAN 50 FEET IN FRONT OF A RADIATING ANTENNA OR INJURY TO PERSONNEL MAY OCCUR.
CAUTION: WHEN THE WEATHER RADAR IS OPERATED IN ANY MODE OTHER THAN STANDBY OR TEST, DIRECT THE NOSE OF THE AIRPLANE SO THE FORWARD 180-DEGREE SECTOR IS FREE OF LARGE METALLIC OBJECTS (HANGARS, TRUCKS, OTHER AIRPLANES, ETC.) FOR A DISTANCE OF 300 FEET AND TILT THE ANTENNA UPWARD 15 DEGREES OR DAMAGE TO RECEIVER MAY OCCUR.

C. Provide electrical power (Ref 24-22-00, Manual Control - Maintenance Practices [Apply Power]).
D. Close WEATHER RADAR R/T and IND circuit breakers.
E. On weather radar indicator perform the following:
(1)
Position MKR and INT controls to mid-scale
(2)
Depress PWR push-button (system on)
3. Weather Radar Trouble Shooting Procedure
A. On weather radar indicator operate the controls in following sequence. Observe weather radar indicator display for failure messages and faulty LRU (Fig. 102). Also check for improper messages.
(1)
TEST push-button
(2)
WX push-button
(3)
WX/T push-button
(4)
MAP push-button
(5)
GCS push-button
(6)
STAB push-button
(7)
Rotate GAIN control from fully ccw to fully cw position and then return to fully ccw position.
(8)
Rotate TILT control to fully cw, fully ccw position and then return to mid-scale.
(9)
Each RNG selector (one at a time)
(10)
HOLD push-button
B. Depress LFT, RGT and FWD pushbuttons in sequence. Check sweep origin moves to proper location. If sweep fails to move replace indicator.
