WEATHER RADAR SYSTEM - ADJUSTMENT/TEST
EFFECTIVITY
Airplanes with Collins WXR-700X Weather Radar
1. General
A. The weather radar adjustment/test consists of an operational test, a system test and a shutdown procedure. The operational test is a relatively quick check of the operational status of the system.
B. The system test procedure allows the testing of the entire weather radar system including interface tests, or it allows the performance of individual tests including:
(1)
Mode tests
(2)
Gain tests
(3)
Range test
(4)
Antenna tilt test
(5)
Stabilization test
C. The prepare for test procedure must be completed before the system test can be accomplished. However, the prepare for test procedure does not need to be repeated for each test if two or more tests are to be performed in sequence.
CAUTION: DO NOT OPERATE WEATHER RADAR WHILE THE AIRPLANE IS BEING REFUELED OR DEFUELED AND DO NOT OPERATE IN ANY RADIATING MODE WHILE A FUELING OPERATION IS BEING CONDUCTED WITHIN 200 FEET OF THE ANTENNA OR AN EXPLOSION MAY OCCUR.
PERSONNEL MUST NOT ENTER AN AREA CLOSER THAN 10 FEET IN FRONT OF A RADIATING ANTENNA OR INJURY TO PERSONNEL MAY OCCUR.
D. If faults are encountered during a test, a FAIL message appears at the top center of the display. When the fail message appears, stop the test, and replace the appropriate LRU as indicated in upper left corner of the display.
2. Operational Test -Weather Radar System
A. Referenced Procedures
(1) 24-22-0, Manual Control -Maintenance Practices (Apply Power)
B. Prepare to Test
(1)
Check WEA RAD R/T and IND circuit breakers are closed on electronic circuit breaker panel P6.
(2)
Provide airplane power (Ref 24-22-0).
(3)
On weather radar indicator, position controls as follows:
(a)
PWR Depressed (on)
(b)
MKR Mid-scale
(c)
INT Mid-Scale
(d)
RNG 120
(e)
GAIN Fully CCW
(f)
TILT Mid-scale

C. Test Weather Radar
(1) Depress TEST mode on indicator. Check for following:
NOTE: Wait 15 seconds for test sequence completion before proceeding. Antenna will perform a complete left-to-right scan and an up-to-down cycle before stopping at zero tilt angle. Tilt Angle shown at lower right-hand corner of display, will read +15 -0- -150 before stopping at 00.
(a)
TEST appears in message slot 1 (Fig. 501).
(b)
A color bar consisting of green, yellow and red appears directly below TEST, unless a fail message is present. In case of a failure the defective LRU will be displayed in place of color bar and the word FAIL will appear in message slot 2 (Fig. 501).
(c)
Test pattern on indicator displays four color rings; green at bottom, yellow, red and magenta at top (Fig. 501).
(d)
Selected range displayed in message slot 3.
(e)
Selected tilt displayed in message slot 8.
