EMERGENCY LIGHTS CONTROL PANEL - REMOVAL/INSTALLATION

1. General
A. The emergency lights control panel is an integral part of the emergency light system. The control panel must not be removed unless certain precautions are taken to ensure that the emergency light batteries do not discharge.
B. The emergency lights power supplies turn the emergency lights on when the electrical connector to the control panel is disconnected. To prevent the lights from turning on, 28v dc must be provided to the power supplies.
2. Remove Emergency Lights Control Panel
A. Verify EMER EXIT LIGHTS switch on P5 overhead panel is positioned to OFF.
B. Provide electrical power (Ref 24-22-0, MP).
C. Close EMER EXIT LIGHTS circuit breaker on P18-3 circuit breaker panel.
D. Loosen fasteners and lower pilots' emergency lights control panel from P5 overhead panel to expose electrical connector.
CAUTION: 28 VOLTS DC ELECTRICAL POWER MUST BE PROVIDED TO EMERGENCY LIGHTS POWER SUPPLIES WHILE THE CONTROL PANEL IS DISCONNECTED TO PREVENT DISCHARGE OF BATTERIES.
E. Disconnect electrical connector from emergency lights control panel and remove control panel.
3. Install Emergency Lights Control Panel
A. Attach electrical connector to control panel.
B. Install control panel in P5 overhead panel with fasteners.
C. Check that EMER EXIT switch on P14 aft attendants' panel is guarded in NORM.
D. Position EMER EXIT LIGHTS switch on P5 overhead panel to OFF. Verify that emergency lights are off and the NOT ARMED light is on.
E. Position EMER EXIT LIGHTS switch to ON. Check that emergency lights and the NOT ARMED light are on.
CAUTION: RETURN SWITCH TO OFF POSITION AS SOON AS POSSIBLE TO CONSERVE BATTERIES.
NOTE: It is necessary to check only one light on each side to verify system operation.
F. Position EMER EXIT LIGHTS switch to ARM. Check that emergency lights are off.

G. Open EMER EXIT LIGHTS circuit breaker on P18-3 circuit breaker panel. Check that emergency lights are on.
CAUTION: RETURN SWITCH TO OFF POSITION AS SOON AS POSSIBLE TO CONSERVE BATTERIES.
NOTE: It is necessary to check only one light on each side to verify system operation.
H. Close EMER EXIT LIGHTS circuit breaker and check that emergency lights are off.
I. Position EMER EXIT LIGHTS switch to OFF.
J. Remove electrical power if no longer required (Ref 24-22-0, MP).

FLIGHT DECK EMERGENCY LIGHT - MAINTENANCE PRACTICES

1. General
A. The flight deck emergency light is part of the aft left dome light. The emergency light uses a 6 volt lamp.
B. The following procedure provides steps for relamping and testing the flight deck emergency light.
2. Relamp Flight Deck Emergency Light
A. Verify EMER EXIT LIGHTS switch, on P5, pilots' overhead panel is positioned to OFF.
B. Turn lens counterclockwise and pull down.
C. Replace lamp.
D. Install lens.
3. Test Flight Deck Emergency Light
A. Lift guard on EMER EXIT switch on P14 aft attendant's panel and position switch to ON.
CAUTION: RETURN SWITCH TO OFF POSITION AS SOON AS POSSIBLE TO CONSERVE BATTERIES.
B. Verify lights illuminate.
C. Return EMER EXIT switch to guarded NORM position.
D. Verify lights are off.

POWER SUPPLY - MAINTENANCE PRACTICES

1. General
A. Emergency light power supplies are located on entry lights and on brackets fastened to the center air conditioning duct. Each power supply contains a battery pack. The battery packs are easily removed and installed without having to remove the entire power supply from the airplane.
