NOSE GEAR TAXI LIGHT - MAINTENANCE PRACTICES
1.  General (Fig. 201)
A.  On some airplanes, the nose gear taxi light is mounted to the light support bracket by three bolts. The light assembly is replaced by removing lamp, disconnecting electrical wiring and removing three mounting bolts. The following provides steps for lamp replacement and light beam adjustment. The nose gear taxi light can be adjusted to any desired vertical direction.
B.  On other airplanes, the nose gear taxi light is mounted to the support bracket by vibration isolators. This light assembly has a fixed beam direction and cannot be adjusted. The following lamp replacement steps apply.
2.  Relamp Nose Gear Taxi Light (Fig. 201)
A.  Open NOSE GEAR TAXI-LT circuit breaker on P18-3 panel.
B.  Remove four screws and remove lamp retainer and lamp.
C.  Disconnect electrical wiring from terminals and remove lamp.
D.  Connect electrical wires to replacement lamp and install lamp.
E.  Install lamp retainer and secure fasteners.
F.  Close circuit breaker opened in step A.
G.  Test lamp.
(1)
Provide electrical power.

(2)
Set TAXI light switch on pilots' overhead panel to ON then to OFF. Check that TAXI light comes on and goes off.

(3)
Remove electrical power if no longer required.

3.  Adjust Nose Gear Taxi Light (Fig. 201) (Adjustable Lights)
A.  Check that airplane is in normal taxi altitude, 1-degree (+ 10 minutes) nose down (Ref Chapter 8, Leveling and Weighing).
B.  Provide electrical power.
C.  Check that NOSE GEAR TAXI-LT circuit breaker on panel P18-3 is closed.
D.  Loosen two upper fasteners and remove lower fastener and washer on taxi light.
E.  Prepare an undrilled washer made to same exterior shape as washer removed in step D.
F.  Set TAXI light switch on pilots' overhead panel to ON.
G.  Adjust centerline of light beam to desired angle, approximately 2.5 degrees down from horizontal.
H.  Set TAXI light switch to OFF.
I.  Mark and drill washer (step E) to allow inserting fastener at new light position.
J.  Bond washer to mounting bracket.
K.  Install and tighten lower fastener.
L.  Tighten upper fasteners.
M.  Set TAXI light switch to ON then to OFF. Check that taxi light beam is properly oriented.
N.  Remove electrical power if no longer required.

NAVIGATION LIGHTS - DESCRIPTION AND OPERATION
1.  General (Fig 1)
A.  Navigation (position) lights are on each wingtip. One red light is on the left wingtip with an aft facing (tail) white light on the trailing edge of the wing. One green light is on the right wingtip with an aft facing (tail) white light on the trailing edge of the wing.
B.  A three-position toggle switch labeled STROBE & STEADY-OFF-STEADY on overhead panel P5 completes 28 volts to the lights (Fig. 2). Positioning the switch to STROBE & STEADY or STEADY turns on the navigation lights. The strobe lights are also turned on when STROBE & STEADY is selected (Ref 33-45-0). A circuit breaker labeled POSITION-STEADY is on load control center P18.
2.  White Navigation Lights
A.  The wing trailing edge mounted tail lights provide a horizontal beam parallel with the centerline of the airplane to 140 degrees outboard with 180-degree vertical coverage. Each tail light assembly is installed in a short boom on the wingtip trailing edge. The light assembly is held in place with three screws. Two screw-held wiring terminals are on the rear of the assembly. The incandescent lamp can be easily replaced after removing the lens and lens collar which are retained with three screws.
3.  Colored Navigation Lights
A.  The wingtip colored lights provide a horizontal beam parallel with the centerline of the airplane to 110 degrees outboard with 180-degree vertical coverage. The light assembly is installed on a mounting bracket within the window housing on the wingtip assembly. The base is held in place with two captive screws and aligned with an indexing pin which fits through a hole in the lens. The lens is held in place on the bracket with a single screw which is lockwired to prevent unnecessary removal of the lens. Relamping is accomplished by loosening only the two screws holding the base, thereby exposing the lamp. The lens remains installed on the bracket. The incandescent lamp is silvered on one side and must be installed with the silvered portion facing aft. A pressure nut retains the lamp in the socket. Two screw-held wiring terminals are on the rear of the assembly.
