READING LIGHTS - DESCRIPTION AND OPERATION
EFFECTIVITY
ATI INTERIOR
1. General (Fig. 1)
A. Individual passenger reading lights are provided in the Passenger Service Units (PSUs) (Ref 25-23-0) above each seat group and Attendant Service Units (ASUs) above each attendants station. A pushbutton switch located adjacent to each reading light enables the passengers to turn their reading lights on and off. Each reading light consists of an incandescent lamp mounted in movable reflector assemblies which provide directional illumination.
2. Reading Lights
A. The reading lights are located in each of the PSUs and ASUs. They are controlled by
pushbutton switches located adjacent to each reading light.
B. Power is supplied by the 28v ac bus 1 and 2. Circuit breakers on the P18-3 panel connect electrical power to the left and right passenger reading light switches. Reading lights are turned on by pushing the pushbutton switches.
C. Reading lights are easily relamped by lowering the PSU or ASU. The reflector assembly and lamp are released by pushing down and rotating the reflector assembly.

READING LIGHTS - MAINTENANCE PRACTICES
EFFECTIVITY
ATI INTERIOR
1. General
A. The following procedures provide steps for relamping and testing.
2. Relamp Reading Lights
A. Provide electrical power (Ref 24-22-0, MP).
B. Position switch in applicable PSU or ASU to turn corresponding light on.
C. Identify faulty light and turn reading light off.
D. For left reading lights, open LEFT READING LTS circuit breakers (6 places) on P18-3 panel.
E. For right reading lights, open RIGHT READING LTS circuit breakers (6 places) on P18-3 panel.
F. For reading lights located on PSU, gain access to back of PSU by lower panel (Ref 25-23-01).
G. For reading lights located on ASU, gain access to back of ASU by lower panel (Ref 25-23-03).
H. Remove cable nipple from reflector assembly.
I. To remove reflector assembly and lamp, push down and rotate reflector assembly.
J. Install new lamp into reflector assembly.
K. Install reflector assembly on bezel assembly.
L. Install nipple on reflector assembly.
M. Close circuit breakers opened in steps D or E above.
N. Remove electrical power if no longer required (Ref 24-22-0, MP).
3. Test Reading Lights
A. Provide electrical power (Ref 24-22-0, MP).
B. Ensure all READING LTS circuit breakers (12 places) on P18-3 panel are closed.
C. Press pushbutton adjacent to reading light on PSU or ASU.
D. Verify corresponding reading light is on.
E. Press pushbutton adjacent to reading light on PSU or ASU.
F. Verify corresponding reading light is off.

PASSENGER SIGNS - DESCRIPTION AND OPERATION
EFFECTIVITY
ATI INTERIOR
1. General
A. Passenger information signs are installed throughout the passenger cabin in Passenger Service Units (PSU's), lavatories, and attendants stations. The signs announce no-smoking, fasten seat belt or return to seat. Control switches are on P5 overhead panel. All signs are normally illuminated during takeoff or landings. The signs go out automatically when the control switches are in AUTO and the landing gear and flaps are retracted.
2. No-Smoking and Fasten Seat Belt Signs Fig. 1)
A. The NO SMOKING (NS) and FASTEN SEAT BELT (FSB) signs are located in each of the passenger service units (Ref 25-23-0) and near attendant stations. The signs are controlled by two three-position rotary switches in overhead panel P5.
B. When either switch is in the ON position, 28v dc power from bus 2 energizes relays to apply 28v ac from the transfer bus 1 to illuminate incandescent lamps in the signs. The OFF position de-energizes the relays and removes electrical power from the signs.
C. With the PASS SIGNS-NO SMOKING switch in the AUTO position, a switch on the pilot's landing gear down lever provides a ground to energize the NS relay. 28v ac power is applied through the NS relay to illuminate the signs.
D. When the PASS SIGNS-SEATBELTS switch is in the AUTO position and the pilot's flap control lever is in other than the full up position, a ground path is provided by a switch on the flap lever to energize the FSB relay. The FSB relay is energized regardless of the state of the NS relay, and both the FSB and RTS signs are illuminated.
