STROBE LIGHTS - DESCRIPTION AND OPERATION
1. General (Fig. 1)
A. One strobe light is installed within the window housing on each wingtip and one strobe light is installed on the fuselage tail cone. The wingtip strobe lights illuminate an area forward and outboard of the airplane. The tail strobe light illuminates an area aft of the airplane.
B. The lights are white and flash at approximately 60 flashes per minute. A three-position toggle switch labeled STROBE & STEADY-OFF-STEADY on overhead panel P5 completes 115 volts ac from bus No. 1 to the lights. A circuit breaker labeled STROBE is on load control center P18 (Fig. 2). Positioning the switch to STROBE & STEADY turns on the strobe lights and the navigation lights (Ref 33-43-0). The strobe lights are off when the switch is in any other position.
2. Tail Strobe Light
A. The tail strobe light fits into a tube on the fuselage tail cone. Eight screws retain the strobe light assembly in the tube. A single electrical connector is on the back of the assembly. The high intensity xenon lamp is a straight tube mounted in lockwired electrical receptacles. Six screws retain the lens thereby enabling easy access for relamping. A power supply consisting of a transistorized timing circuit and power conversion circuit is an integral part of the assembly.
3. Wingtip Strobe Lights
A. The wingtip strobe light is installed on a casting within the window housing on the wingtip assembly. Four bolts retain the strobe light assembly. An electrical connector is on the back of the assembly. The high intensity xenon lamps are straight tubes mounted in lockwired electrical receptacles. Four screws retain a cover which is removed when relamping the assembly. A power supply consisting of a transistorized timing circuit and power conversion circuit is an integral part of the assembly.
