THE AREA BEHIND THE APU EXHAUST DUCT: 25m (82ft.) REARWARD OF THE DUCT, MORE THAN 3m (10ft.) ABOVE THE GROUND, AND THE WIDTH OF THE HORIZONTAL STABILIZER
-
THE AREA AROUND THE APU AIR-INTAKE: 2m (7ft) AROUND THE INTAKE
-
THE AREA OF THE OIL-COOLER OUTLET.
THERE IS A RISK OF INJURY IF YOU GO INTO THESE AREAS.
CAUTION : DO NOT USE THE APU DURING FLUID DE-ICING OPERATIONS. DE-ICING FLUID
_______ CAN CONTAMINATE THE INSIDE OF THE APU.
CAUTION : DO NOT TRY TO START THE APU A FOURTH TIME UNTIL THE STARTER MOTOR IS
_______ COOL (60 MINUTES MINIMUM). WE RECOMMEND THAT YOU TRY TO START THE APU THREE TIMES, WITH AN INTERVAL OF ONE MINUTE BETWEEN EACH TIME THAT YOU TRY.
CAUTION : DO NOT START THE APU WITH ACCESS DOORS 315AL AND 316AR OPEN/REMOVED.
_______ THE APU FIRE EXTINGUISHER SYSTEM IS NOT SUFFICIENT TO EXTINGUISH A FIRE IF THE ACCESS DOORS 315AL AND 316AR ARE OPEN/REMOVED.
CAUTION : DO NOT TRY TO START THE APU AGAIN DURING A REFUEL/DEFUEL PROCEDURE
_______ AFTER AN AUTOMATIC SHUTDOWN OR FAILED APU START. IF YOU DO, THERE IS A RISK OF INJURY AND/OR DAMAGE.

A. Safety Precautions
(1)
Remove the ground support and maintenance equipment, the special and standard tools and all other items.
(2)
Make sure that the forward avionic-compartment door 811 (Ref. TASK 52-41-00-010-002) is open.
(a) Make sure that the warning notice is put in position on the opened forward avionic-compartment door 811 which tells persons not to close the door.
(3)
Make sure that the APU is serviceable.
(4)
Make sure that the APU fuel line is bled correctly (Ref. TASK 28-22-00-710-001) if it was drained to do a maintenance task since the last operation of the APU.
(5)
Make sure that all blanking plugs and covers are removed.
(6)
Make sure that the nose of the aircraft points into the wind.
(7)
Make sure that the aircraft fuel system is serviceable and the fuel quantity is sufficient.
(8)
Make sure that the APU fire and overheat detection system and the APU fire-extinguishing system are serviceable (Ref. TASK 26-22-00-710-001).
(9)
Do the APU shutdown immediately if you find a malfunction of the APU system during the operation. Correct the failure before you operate the APU again.

(10) If an emergency occurs, do the APU emergency shutdown immediately. You can start the emergency shutdown from:
-
the APU FIRE PUSH pushbutton switch on the panel 20VU,
-
the APU SHUT OFF pushbutton switch on the panel 108VU.
NOTE : Do the APU emergency shutdown immediately if smoke, unusual

noise, fuel or oil leakage occurs.
