Anti-Icing ................................................................................................................ OFF
Flaps ..........................................................................................................................20°
Solution: Enter the Flaps 20° / Anti-Icing Off MAXIMUM ALLOWABLE TAKEOFF GROSS
WEIGHT PERMITTED BY TAKEOFF CLIMB REQUIREMENTS chart at 25°C,
proceed right to 8000 ft., then down to determine the maximum allowable takeoff
gross weight = 70,200 pounds (31,840 kg).

SECTION 5.4 TIRE SPEED LIMITED PERFORMANCE
Takeoff gross weight is limited when the liftoff speed is greater than ground speed limitation on
tires (182 knots).
EXAMPLE: Find maximum allowable takeoff gross weight permitted by tire speed limit:
Given: Airport Ambient Temperature................................................................................13° C
Airport Pressure Altitude .................................................................................10,000 ft.
Tailwind .............................................................................................................10 knots
Flaps ..........................................................................................................................20°
Solution: Enter the Flaps 20° MAXIMUM ALLOWABLE TAKEOFF GROSS WEIGHT
PERMITTED BY TIRE SPEED chart at 13° C, proceed right to 10,000 ft., then
down, following guide lines of wind scale to determine the maximum allowable
takeoff gross weight = 57,500 pounds (26,081 kg).

SECTION 5.5 TAKEOFF SPEEDS
The takeoff decision speed, V1, must meet the following FAR criteria:
1 V1 must not exceed VR
2. V1 must not exceed Maximum Brake Energy limit speed, VMBE
3. V1 must not be less than V1MCG.
The takeoff speeds charts present for V1, VR, V2 and VMBE as functions of airport temperature
and altitude, gross weight, and ratio V1 / VR.
To achieve the accelerate-go distance, it is necessary to initiate rotation of the airplane at the
recommended airspeed. Rotation of the airplane below or above recommended airspeed will
result in an undershoot or an overshoot of the V2 speed at the 35 foot obstacle height.
EXAMPLE 1: Determine Takeoff Speeds V1, VR, V2
Given: Airport Ambient Temperature....................................................................................-5° C
Airport Pressure Altitude ......................................................................................6,000 ft.
Flaps ..............................................................................................................................20°
Takeoff Gross Weight ............................................................. 63,000 pounds (28,580 kg)
Runway Length ..................................................................................... 7,000 ft. (2134 m)
Runway Slope ................................................................................................+1% (uphill)
Stopway........................................................................................................ 200 ft. ( 61m)
