INTRODUCTION
This section contains only those procedures which differ from or add to the Normal Operating
Procedures as required by Adverse Weather Conditions.

GENERAL
In response to requests for additional information and guidance regarding Adverse/Cold Weather
or Abnormal Flight Operations, the following general procedures, suggestions and cautions have
been combined into one document to aid in preparations for operations in Abnormal Conditions.
These procedures are not intended to address all Abnormal Flight or Adverse/Cold Weather
Operational Procedures; some procedures for specific or unique operations should be addressed
or added by the individual operators.
NOTE: For Takeoff and Landing from Precipitation Covered Runways, advisory data only (not
FAA Approved), see GIV/OIS-2.

COLD WEATHER OPERATIONS
Recommended procedures to assist in powering up systems, airplane heating, and engine starting,
after prolonged cold soak conditions in temperatures down to -40°C (-40°F). If maintenance
facilities are available, it is recommended that APU and engines be preheated prior to start.
Airplane heating is accomplished using APU Air and Air Conditioning Packs. Heating can be
expedited by closing both main entry and baggage compartment doors.
PREFLIGHT INSPECTION
The flight crew should be alert during preflight preparation to inspect areas where surface snow
or frost could change or affect normal system operations. Supplemental preflight checks should
include the following:
All Protection Covers .................................................................................................... REMOVED
Wheels...........................................................................................................................CHOCKED
NOTE: Chocks may not hold on slippery surfaces unless they have been sanded.
Parking Brake............................................................................................................................OFF
All Surfaces ......................................................... CHECK/FREE FROM FROST, ICE OR SNOW
The wing including leading edges, all control surfaces, tab surfaces and balance panel cavities,
wing trailing edge, flight control actuators, cable runs, and push rods must be free of ice or snow.
Check control balance cavities for drainage after snow removal as puddled water may refreeze in
flight.
APU Inlet......................................................... CHECK/CLEAR OF IMPACTED ICE OR SNOW
Engine Inlets.....................................................CHECK/CLEAR OF INTERNAL ICE OR SNOW
Check that APU air inlet and cowling inlet inlet are free of ice or snow and the Engine LP
Compressor rotates freely.
Fuel Tanks Vents......................................................................CHECK/FREE OF ICE OR SNOW
Check accessible fuel tank vents. All traces of ice or snow should be removed.
