Solution:
A. Enter the Flaps 20° MAXIMUM ALLOWABLE TAKEOFF GROSS WEIGHT
chart at -5°C, read right to pressure altitude = 6000 ft., read down to intersection
with horizontal line from takeoff gross weight = 63,000 pounds (28,580 kg). Read
effective runway length 5300 ft. (1615 m).
B. Enter the Flaps 20° REFERENCE ACCELERATE-STOP DISTANCE Chart with:
Accelerate-Stop Distance available = 7200 ft. (7000 + 200) (2195 m)
Determine reference Accelerate-Stop Distance = 7200 ft. (2195 m).
C. Enter the Flaps 20° REFERENCE ACCELERATE-GO DISTANCE chart with:
Actual Runway Length = 7000 ft. (2134 m)
Determine reference accelerate-go distance = 6300 ft. (1920 m).
D. Enter the Flaps 20° RUNWAY LENGTH AND V1 ADJUSTMENTS chart with
effective runway length = 5300 ft. (1615 m). Any V1 / VR ratio along this line can
be selected if it results in reference accelerate-go and accelerate-stop distances less
than those determined in Steps B and C of this example. V1 / VR can range from
0.87 to 1.00. Refer to Section 5.5 for subsequent takeoff planning.
NOTE: Lower values of V1 / VR can be used to reduce wear on brakes should a
stop be necessary. For obstacle clearance, higher values of V1 may be
used to reduce reference accelerate-go distance which determines
reference zero. Moving reference zero point closer to brake release
provides a greater horizontal distance in which to clear obstacle. See
Section 5.5 for limitations on V1.
EXAMPLE 2: (Not shown on chart) Determine the maximum allowable takeoff gross weight
and V1 / VR permitted by field length.

Solution:
A. Enter the Flaps 20° REFERENCE ACCELERATE-STOP DISTANCE Chart with:
Accelerate-Stop Distance available = 5800 ft. (5400 + 400) (1768 m)
Determine reference Accelerate-Stop Distance = 6300 ft. (1920 m)
B. Enter the Flaps 20° REFERENCE ACCELERATE-GO DISTANCE Chart with:
Actual runway length = 5400 ft. (1646 m)
Determine reference Accelerate-Go Distance = 5700 ft. (1737 m)
CAUTION: CLEARWAY USED MUST NOT EXCEED MAXIMUM
ALLOWABLE CLEARWAY SHOWN ON CHART.
C. Enter the Flaps 20° RUNWAY LENGTH AND V1 ADJUSTMENTS Chart with:
Reference Accelerate-Stop Distance = 6300 ft. (1920 m)
Reference Accelerate-Go Distance = 5700 ft. (1737 m)
Determine:
Effective Runway Length = 6050 ft. (1844 m)
Takeoff Decision Speed Ratio V1 / VR = 0.99
NOTE: If Takeoff Decision Speed Ratio is greater than V1 / VR = 1.00, read
horizontally to left, maintaining constant Accelerate-Go Distance, until
intersecting V1 / VR = 1.00 and read effective runway length at this point.
D. Enter the Flaps 20° MAXIMUM ALLOWABLE TAKEOFF GROSS WEIGHT Chart
with:
Airport Ambient Temperature..........................................................................20° C
Airport Pressure Altitude ..............................................................................4000 ft.
Effective Runway Length.............................................................. 6050 ft. (1844 m)
Determine:
Maximum Allowable Takeoff Gross Weight = 68,000 pounds (30,844 kg)
