TAKEOFF
Execute a normal takeoff.
NOTE: Examine performance charts carefully to determine effects of high temperatures on
airplane performance.

LANDING
Perform a normal landing. Avoid the use of reverse thrust when possible, since reverse thrust
may blow sand and dust into the air directly in front of the engine intakes.
TAXI
To achieve better cabin cooling during ground operation, it is recommended that APU be used as
the air source for the air conditioning system.
If APU air is selected ON after landing, select both Engine Bleed Air Switches OFF. This will
prevent thermal transients on the APU or possible damage to the APU when the power levers are
moved above idle.
PARKING
If blowing dust or sand is anticipated, park the airplane with the nose pointed into the prevailing
or forecasted wind (flaps retracted). This precaution may reduce the accumulation of dust and
sand along the trailing edges of the wings and on the actuating mechanisms for the ailerons,
flaps, and spoilers.
For airplanes without Brake Temperature Monitoring System Installed.
CAUTION: If landing required hard braking and hot brakes are suspected, do not set parking
brake. Chock nosewheel. Personnel should stay clear of main landing gear areas
until brakes have cooled.
For airplanes with Brake Temperature Monitoring System Installed.
NOTE: (1) For airplanes SN 1236, SN 1253 and subs. and airplanes with ASC 345 (Enhanced
Avionics), BTMS display is incorporated on the BRAKES system page.
(2) If landing required hard braking, monitor temperatures to ensure brake
temperatures have peaked and are decreasing. Note peak temperature for use in
determining turn around time and brake cooling requirements. See Appendix C for
Brake Kinetic Energy and Brake Cooling Chart data.

BEFORE LEAVING THE AIRPLANE
Manually close outflow valve.
Make sure that protective covers are installed promptly on pitot heads and intake and exhaust
ducts.
Install windshield protective sun screens on cockpit windows.
Close cabin window shades. If unable to close shade, ensure there are no pillows or material
items close to the window.
Close the entrance door.
HIGH ELEVATION AIRPORTS
Recommended procedures to assist in engine starting, taxi, takeoff and landing operations at high
elevation airports:
FLIGHT CREW
Use of oxygen by the flight crew while performing high workload tasks at high elevation airports
or at field elevations for which the flight crew is not acclimated is highly recommended.
NOTE: Examine performance data thoroughly to determine the adverse effects of high density
altitude.
ENGINE START
The following are recommended changes to the starting procedure:
Be alert for either a warm start or hot start.
