6. For a reduced-thrust takeoff, locate the adjusted field length in the takeoff weight row. This
column is the assumed temperature column. The EPR setting for the reduced-thrust takeoff
(FLEX EPR) is shown beneath the assumed temperature at the top of the column.

7. This Appendix does not include any obstacle clearance information. Check obstacle clearance
using the charts presented in the Airplane Flight Manual for the selected takeoff flap setting and
the assumed temperature. If obstacles are not cleared, decrease the assumed temperature by
columns until obstacle clearance has been obtained. New V-speeds and FLEX EPR must then be
determined.
CAUTION: THE OBSTACLE CLEARANCE CHARTS MUST BE ENTERED WITH THE
ASSUMED TEMPERATURE.
TAKEOFF PLANNING EXAMPLE
1. Departure Conditions:
a. Dry, Hard-Surfaced Runway
b. Available Field Length = 6200 feet
c. Airport Pressure Altitude = Sea Level
d. Ambient Temperature = +4°C
e. Wind Component = 5 knot headwind
f. Runway Slope = 1.0% uphill
g. Takeoff Runway Obstacles = None
2. Airplane Configuration:
a. Takeoff Gross Weight = 62,000 Pounds
b. Flaps = 20°
c. Ground Spoilers = INOPERATIVE
d. Cowl Anti-Icing = As required (ambient temp.
is below +10°C)
e. Wing Anti-Icing = OFF
3. Determine:
a. Adjusted Runway Length (from appropriate table). See TAKEOFF PLANNING EXAMPLE
chart, Figure A-1.
- Headwind Correction (6200 x +2%) = +124 feet
- Uphill Slope Correction (6200 feet x -20%) = -1240 feet
- Inoperative Ground Spoilers Correction: = -800 feet
- Adjusted Runway Length (6200 + 124 - 1240 - 800): = 4284 feet
b. Takeoff Thrust and V-speeds:
- Full-thrust and Flex-thrust Takeoff
VFS = 157 KCAS
VSE = 164 KCAS
VREF = 144 KCAS

c. Verify MAX TEMP and maximum EPR reduction are not exceeded:
- MAX TEMP = +50°C
Assumed Temperature = +35°C
NOTE: Brake energy, tire speed, and takeoff climb limitations are included in the
determination of MAX TEMP. None of these limits will be exceeded as long
as the assumed temperature does not exceed MAX TEMP.
- MIN EPR minus FLEX EPR equals EPR reduction
1.69 - 1.67 = .02
Maximum allowed EPR reduction of 0.15 is not exceeded.
d. Obstacle clearance verification:
- Verify obstacle clearance based on the selected flap setting and the assumed temperature
(+35°C for this example). Use the field length found in the table as the reference
accelerate-go distance. If the obstacles are not cleared, reduce the assumed temperature by
columns until obstacle clearance height is attained.
- Determine V-speeds and FLEX EPR associated with the final assumed temperature.
