Security Aspects of Data Sharing
Data sharing only possible if security requirements and
security constraints have been fulfilled.
– Need-to-know principle: only reduced data sets are exchanged
– Security requirements fulfilled by data sharing system:
• Confidentiality, data integrity - using secure encrypted communication
such as HTTPS assures that data remains private and cannot
be changed during transfer.
• Authenticity – username/password protection to verify that a user is
who she or he claims to be.
• Access control – allow access to data by authorised users only.
• Security logging – for off-line intrusion detection, to hold users
accountable for their actions, and after-the-fact damage assessment.
– Security requirements fulfilled by underlying network:
• Consisting of a secure infrastructure - firewalls, private networks, ...
Infrastructure must comply with the requirements of the involved
