PROBLEMS WITH SLATS/FLAPS
A single slat/flap (system 1 or 2) fault results only in their slow operation. Configuration changes during approach must be anticipated.
Incase of a slat/flap system 1 and 2 fault/stuck situation:
- Observe limit speeds, both Vfe as well as the lower limit for maneuvering.
- The fault may clear by recycling the S/F lever. This may be done by memory.
- In case of a problem with slats during extension, the flaps operation may first be checked (observe limit speeds, though in clean configuration, it may be necessary to reduce speed below green dot – see “landing with abnormal slats or flaps” c/l.) If the flaps are also found inoperative, apply the “no flaps and no slats” checklist directly.
NO FLAPS AND NO SLATS LANDING
" No flaps and no slats landing check list"
Notes :
- Slat / Flap control jammed in the retracted position.
- Use MED brakes for landing
- The ATS and GPWS must be disarmed, to prevent operation of the alpha floor, and nuisance GPWS warnings on final approach.
- If the SLATS / FLAPS handle is jammed in RET position AFS-GA mode is lost. Select TOGA on TRP. GA thrust will be obtained at full forward throttle position. GO-AROUND guidance is not available on FD. If Go-levers are triggered, FD is frozen in the last acquired mode and displays the related commands.
- The only way to restore FD is to select both FPV/FD switches OFF for at least 3 seconds and then ON. The FD will re-engage in basic modes: V/S and HDG.
- Deceleration to stick shaker speed may cause stick shaker operation in the landing flare.
- Apply reverse thrust even before nose-wheel touchdown. Lower nose wheel as soon as possible and select max. reverse.
WIND SHEAR
- Any time after being stabilized on approach, if the a/c is suddenly displaced by
- +/- 15 kts IAS, +/- 500 ROD ( ROD reduces to 200 or increases to 1300 ), +/- 5 deg. in pitch ( reduces to minus 2 or increases to + 10) or one dot Glide Slope, call out "WIND SHEAR GOAROUND".
- PF trigger Go Levers to obtain Go Around thrust, rotate smoothly to about 17.5 deg. Allow IAS to decrease to VSS ' if necessary' to prevent descent. Do not allow IAS to decrease below VSS.
- DO NOT CHANGE CONFIGURATION.
Do not raise Gear or Flaps.
- PNF check full power - Monitor Flight Path - Select FPV.
- When out of shear zone, regain speed to Vapp.
- PNF advise Positive Flight Path (FPV above horizon and +ve climb of Radio height )
- Inform ATC
- Flaps are retracted to one notch up, at positive rate of climb. Thereafter, gear up and follow normal go around procedure.
- Similarly after takeoff, suspect windshear if sudden speed reduction or rate of climb reduction is experienced. Immediately trigger 'Go levers' again to obtain full go around thrust and push throttle levers full forward. No configuration change to be made till out of wind shear.
