3.  The report for maintenance action on the stalled engine should include:                    TAT, ALT, IAS, N1, EGT peak, weather conditions. 

 

 

 

 

 

ENGINE FAILUE DURING CRUISE

CAPTAIN / PF FIRST OFFICER / PNF
In case either pilot is not present in the flight deck, the other pilot must commence the immediate actions and announce on Emergency PA "IFS to cockpit" and commence both Captain / First Officer actions till the other pilot is available.

"Cont. Relight” Continuous Relight ON. Start Clock.
      Disconnect A/THR.
      Select lower altitude.
Press ‘LVL/CH’; Bank 150 on FCU.
HDGSEL – push- pull- turn. Preferably turn towards live engine side to avoid
over banking in case A/P trips. Time for minutes flown away from airway.
Set ‘green dot’ speed.
Set MCT. Heading select 900 to Airway. Seat belt signs on
      “ ECAM actions” Carries out ECAM actions till ‘Fuel Lever OFF’ or ‘1st Agent Discharge’ as reqd.
VHF / If not in VHF contact broadcast on 121.5 "Air India............ Engine Failure descending from FL..........to FL  ------Position ................." From QRH, find LRC / DRIFT DOWN Max. altitude.
Select 25 NM offset on FMS or as per ATC requirements 
Select Engine out Altitude corresponding to the weight, rounded off to the nearest lower semicircular level. 
Trim the Rudder.  
“Continue ECAM till STATUS” Continue ECAM till ‘STATUS’ appears.
"Engine Fail Check list" Carry out Engine Fail C/L
If diversion required: 
Airport Select and set course for diversion. Obtain weather.
Inform ATC about diversion..
After level out at desired Engine out level set speed as required and reengage Auto throttle. From QRH check fuel and time to diversion Airport.

 

 

Notes:

1. If descent is not initiated the AP maintains existing altitude which results in speed bleeding off. When speed reaches VLS – 10 (-20 in Profile) AP will disconnect. In the absence of AP any abrupt application of controls at high altitude can result in Dutch Roll / Abnormal Attitude. In case the abnormal attitude involves a situation of over banking on to the failed engine side, consider reducing the live engine thrust to normalise situation then reengage AP & ATHR.

2. To ensure that the speed is maintained, A/THR is disconnected, ‘LVL/CH’ selected and MCT is set. These actions are performed without undue delay.

3. Trim the a/c to centralise the trapezoidal index. Select Flt.Ctl.Page. on ECAM & Check no spoiler deployment when wings are level, by trimming the rudder, so as to ensure no spoiler deployment.  This ensures minimum speed decay. (Control wheel centralized)
