ELEVATOR JAM
If before100kts-reject take off. After 100Kts,this abnormality may be realized only at VR.
- "Elevator Jam, Rotate"
- If at or after V1. Both pilots simultaneously operate the pitch control (pull the control wheel) to achieve rotation.
- If unable to rotate, use electric pitch trim with caution to rotate.
- Landing gear maybe retracted as usual since this causes no appreciable controllability problems.
- At 400' or above and aircraft stabilized, "Elevator Jam Check List".
- Maintain speed below 195 knots (in order to retain independent elevator surface movement )
- Inform ATC that you have elevator Jam, unable to maintain accurate level allow for
- +/- 2000'. Ask for long Radar Vector for Straight In Approach.
- Do not over trim, use trim with caution. Use manual trim. Using electric trim will result in over trimming. Correct Body angle should be used for various configurations and power settings for the weight. PNF should operate throttle very smoothly.
- Select higher altitude On FCU, to stop Alt. alert warning.
- Select ATS lever OFF.
- Do not change the configuration after take off to prevent large pitch changes. To change thrust setting, first trim then change thrust.
- Early selection of Slats/Flaps and gear helps a stabilized approach.
- PNF controls the throttle.
- On short finals, if the aircraft camel-rides the G/S, do not trim if deviation is not more than one dot. Otherwise, use very small inputs.
- Landing flare at 30 ft. Use pitch trim in two counts, and then the throttles should be smoothly retarded to idle.
- At all times avoid rapid thrust change.
STABILIZER JAM
- Maintain speed at which the stabilizer jam was detected to delay on set of out of trim forces as long as possible.
- Before deceleration, select PITCH FEEL 1 + 2 OFF/R. PITCH FEEL FAULT will now appear on ECAM CRT. Pitch control inputs should be made with care, not to over control the aircraft.

- Note: Control column is very heavy and when tired take help of PNF.
ABNORMAL PITCH BEHAVIOR
- Hold the control wheel & firmly the trim wheel
- Disengage the AP if engaged.
- Trim as necessary, using the trim wheel & confirm both pitch trim levers are tripped.
- “Abnormal Pitch Behaviour Check List”.
PITCH TRIM FAULT
- “ECAM Actions”
- If only one pitch trim system failed, attempt to reset.
- If both pitch trim systems failed use manual pitch trim and limit speed to 285 kt. / 0.78 M. Altitude is limited to FL 350 to obtain acceptable longitudinal stability and to keep 1.4 G margin to buffet.
- If manual pitch trim not available, assume stabilizer is jammed.
