EXCESS CAB ALT / DECCOMPRESSION / EMERGENCY DESCENT - ACTIONS

CAPTAIN FIRST OFFICER
"All crew on Oxygen" 
Oxygen mask ON, emergency headset on, crew communication establish. (Inter-phone s/w off, PTT push fwd to talk). Oxygen mask ON, emergency hedset on, crew communication establish.       ( Inter-phone s/w off, PTT push fwd to talk).

Check outflow valve position and call out
“OUTFLOW VALVES OPEN / CLOSE”
Hdg. knob push pull & turn left. Call to ATC
Spin down Alt knob press LVL/CH PB Cont Relight ON,                    from
Seat belt & No smoking ON   memory

If MACH displayed on FCU press ‘MACH/SPD’ push button to display SPD. Squawk 7700
Throttles Idle 
Speed brake full
"Emergency Descent C/L" 
Carries out Emergency Descent C/L.
If no damage confirmed, increase speed to MMO/VMO - If damage suspected maintain current speed.  
"Emergency descent C/L complete"
Altitude set 10000 ft / MEA  
Hdg adjust to 900 from airway 
 "2000 ft to level"
Speed Brake Retract, gently.

 "1000 ft to level"
Speed 300/ Maintain speed, if damage.
Avoid ROD >1000 ft./ min.

At 10000 ft "IFS to Cockpit" Ask for cabin report. R/T call to ATC & Company.
Maintain oxygen masks till 10,000 ft. 


NOTES :
1) Suspect structural damage if Rapid decompression takes place with outflow valves fully closed and cabin V/S maximum. Ear distress or loud noise may be heard.

2)    Oxygen masks to be maintained till 10,000 ft.

3) Below 10,000 ft. descent at slow rate of 1000 ft/min for PAX comfort.

4) If speed has been restricted during the Emergency Descent, Gear may be selected down at 20000 ft. at a speed, below 270 kts in order to increase rate of descent.

5) Use of Auto Pilot is recommended to initiate Emergency Descent.

6) The time of useful consciousness without oxygen decreases rapidly as altitude increases (approx. 20 secs. at FL 350)

7)   Incase of both engines flameout, during emergency descent, apart from memory actions, after passing 20000 ft, retract speed brakes, reduce speed to 260 kts (optimum speed), and carry out ‘both the engine flameout’ check list.

8) Refer to the “fuel and time to destination at FL100” graph – FCOM 2.18.20 pg 3. 

 
DUAL FMS FAILURE IN CRUISE

1. AP on / ATHR on (if tripped)

2. Select SPD/MACH, ALT HOLD/LVL CH, HDG SEL
