CORROSION INHIBITING COMPOUND - CLEANING/PAINTING
_________________________________________________
TASK 51-21-91-377-001-B00
1. Apply the Corrosion Inhibiting Compound_______________________________________
A. General
(1)
This procedure contains these tasks:
(a)
Prepare the Surface
(b)
Apply the Corrosion Inhibiting Compound
(c)
Cure the Corrosion Inhibiting Compound
(d)
Repair of the Corrosion Inhibiting Compound
(e)
Removal of the Corrosion Inhibiting Compound
(2)
Do not apply corrosion inhibiting compound to the areas that follow:
(a)
Areas which will be subsequently painted or sealed (including when it is applied to a joining area).
(b)
Teflon painted surfaces, teflon bearing surfaces, or joints that are lubricated in another procedure.
(c)
Electrical connector contacts or electrical components (i.e. motors and switches).
(d)
Pressurized drain valves.
(e)
Sliding pins and other mechanical joints in a sliding surface contact.
(3)
The areas that follow must be shielded or protected to make sure the corrosion inhibiting compound is not applied:
(a)
Control cables and pulleys.
(b)
Wire bundles, coax connectors, etc.
(c)
Mechanical silicone seals.
(d)
Insulation blankets.
(e)
Bushings and bearings.
(f)
Cam surfaces.
(g)
Lubricated components.
(h)
Pneumatic ducts with surface temperatures that are more than 200 degrees Fahrenheit during normal operations.
(i)
Electrical connectors must be taped with masking tape to prevent contamination of electrical contacts. Overspray is permitted on joined connectors.

(j)
Do not remove the masking tape or applicable covers until the corrosion inhibiting compound has dried sufficiently. This will make sure the compound will not rub off or move to another surface. 1) When the masking tape or covers have been removed, do a
touch-up of the corrosion inhibiting compound where it is necessary, to prevent corrosion in the areas of a structural interface.
(k)
Corrosion inhibiting compound is not necessary in the areas where Titanium structures and aluminum structures interface.
(l)
Make sure you do not apply corrosion inhibiting compound to the Ground strap/surface interfaces to make sure you have a sufficient ground path.
(m)
Make sure you do not apply too much corrosion inhibiting compound. Too much compound will not make it easy for in-service inspections of the surface structures below the compound.
