 CONDUCTIVE COATING FOR EXTERIOR FIBERGLASS AND KEVLAR - CLEANING/PAINTING

 1.  General_______
 A.  This procedure contains one task. The task is to apply a layer of the conductive coating on the external fiberglass and kevlar surfaces.
 B.  It is necessary to apply a conductive coating on all external fiberglass and kevlar surfaces (except those with BMS 8-278 Thorstrand on the surface).
 C.  For radome see (AMM 53-52-00).

 (2)  Refer to manufacturer's instruction to mix the conductive coatings.

 CAUTION: DO NOT PERMIT A PAINT THAT HAS METALLIC PARTICLES TO GET ON AN
_______ ANTENNA OR ITS FAIRING. THE ANTENNA PERFORMANCE WILL DECREASE IF THERE ARE METALLIC PARTICLES ON ITS SURFACES OR FAIRING.
 (3)  Apply masking tape to all areas that the conductive coating must not be applied.
 NOTE: Use polyethlene sheets for large areas.

Spray or apply the conductive coating with a brush until you get a dry film thickness of 0.6 (|0.2) mil.

Let the conductive coating cure:

 (a)  
Permit the surface to dry in countersunk areas for at least 20 minutes before you install the fasteners.

 (b)  
Permit the surface to dry as shown in Fig. 702 before you do the resistance measurements.

 (6)  Measure the conductivity of the antistatic paint surface as follows:
 (a)  Tightly touch the surface with the surface resistivity-measurement probe.
