C. Prepare for Paint Stripping

CAUTION: DO NOT LET THE PAINT STRIPPERS TOUCH THE TEFLON LINED
_______ SELF-LUBRICATED BEARINGS, ELECTRICAL TERMINAL PLUGS, NYLON-COATED WIRES, AND NYLON BUSHINGS. CHEMICALS IN THESE MATERIALS WILL CAUSE DAMAGE TO THE COMPONENTS.
(1) Apply tape or covers to areas which can be damaged easily by the paint strippers.
(a)
Put the applicable tape or covers on lubricated parts, rubber parts, laminated plastics, fiberglass, aerodynamic smoother and metal bonded edges.
(b)
Apply tape a minimum of one-inch wide on the skin to all access doors, fairings, wing leading edges and trailing edges.
(c)
Apply tape on the drain holes and vents.

Make sure that you fully mix the components in the paint stripper mixture before you use it.

Shake the paint strippers immediately before you apply or after you add the paint stripper materials.

Clean the area with BMS 3-2, Type I or P-D-680, Type I solvents.
(a) Carefully remove loose soil, grease, or oil.

(b) Clean the surface with a wet cheesecloth, soft brush or sponge that is moist with solvent.
NOTE: A spray gun can help you clean the surface.

(c)
Flush the surface with clean solvent.
(d)
Rub the surface with a clean cheesecloth.
(e)
Remove all unwanted solvent.
(f)
Let the surface dry.

CAUTION: MAKE SURE THAT YOU FULLY CLEAN THE SURFACE BEFORE YOU APPLY THE
_______ PAINT OR ADHESIVE. USE ONLY BMS 3-2, TYPE I SOLVENT TO CLEAN THE SURFACE. DO NOT USE P-D-680 OR DAMAGE TO THE SURFACE CAN OCCUR.
(5) Clean the area again with BMS 3-2, Type I only.
(a)
Use a squirt bottle to apply the solvent on the surface.
(b)
Clean the surface with a clean cheesecloth until you remove all large pieces of soil.
(c)
For areas which are not easy to clean, use a soft bristle brush to clean the surface.
(d)
Clean the surface again with a new cheesecloth until you can see no signs of soil on the cheesecloth.
NOTE: It will be necessary to change the cheesecloth
____ frequently when you clean the surface.
(e)
Dry the area with a clean cheesecloth.
