(f) Let the second layer of the primer dry (Fig. 701).

(2) Apply the intumescent finish.
(a)
If you apply the intumescent finish with a brush, use the solution as mixed.
(b)
If you apply the intumescent finish with a spray gun, use one of the two procedures that follow: 1) Procedure 1:
a) Use 60 psi atomization air pressure and 22 psi fluid pressure to apply the solution as mixed. 2) Procedure 2: a) Add 10% (by weight) methylene chloride to the solution to make it easier to apply. b) Use 45 psi atomization pressure and 15 psi fluid pressure to apply the solution.
(c)
Make sure the total thickness of the layer is 0.018-0.023 inches.
(d)
Let the intumescent finish dry for 48 hours at room temperature before you machine or assemble the part.
NOTE: The intumescent finish must dry for 24 hours before you

can touch it.
