Examine the wing leading edges for dents, abrasion, and allowable skin thickness (SRM 57-43-01).
(b)
Examine the wing leading edge for roughness (SRM 57-43-01 PAGE 105, ITEM E).

(2) Examine the front of airplane.
(a)
Examine the fuselage for abrasion.
(b)
Examine the windshields and windows for abrasion which decreases vision.
(c)
Make sure there is no ash on or in the pitot/static probes and static ports, (AMM 34-11-00/201).

(3) Examine the engines.
(a)
Examine the engines for damage (AMM 72-00-00/601).
(b)
Examine the engine control mechanisms and linkages for ash.

(4) Examine the air conditioning system.
(a) Examine the Cabin Pressurization Outflow Valve (AMM 21-31-11/401). 1) If you find volcanic ash in the valve, clean or replace the
valve.

(b) Remove and examine the Safety Relief Valves (AMM 21-32-21/401). 1) If you find volcanic ash in the valves, clean or replace the valves.
(c) Remove and examine the Safety Relief Valve filters (AMM 21-32-22/401). 1) If you find volcanic ash in the filters, clean or replace the filters.
