a percentage point or two can make a big difference in financial performance.
By using Intercim, BMW reduced scrap significantly and spawned the
development of a best practice that is now used throughout the company.
Continental
Continental is a manufacturer of tires as well as other automotive components.
In an effort to deal with acoustic problems identified within its products,
Continental was collecting almost 3,000 different measured values. The
questions Continental was trying to answer included: Which values were
important; which ones were not important; and which values did it really need
to focus on? Using Intercim, the company identified three different types of
rules. Continental experts already knew about some of the rules, and they
knew they could disregard some of them. But the system found additional
rules that allowed the company to reduce and even eliminate the need to collect
all data, and to deal with the acoustic problems in the products.
sanofi pasteur
sanofi pasteur, the vaccines division of sanofi-aventis Group was focused primarily
on dealing with a yield issue within pharmaceuticals. Yield was deteriorating
and sanofi was unsure why. If the yield problems were not corrected,
the company would have to halt production.
The Intercim solution helped sanofi to get a better understanding of the
costs involved and to gain new insights into the yield process. In the end,
changes identified by the system led to significant yield improvements.
